Job Title:Store Person (10 month Fixed term post)
Reports to:Furniture Restoration Project Manager
Accountable to:Social Economy Manager
Location:Hill View Retail Park, Crumlin Road, Belfast
Salary:£Competitive paid monthly by BACS
Hours + contract:37.5 hrs per week - fixed term contract for 10 months
Leave:20 days and 12 statutory days per year pro rata
Expenses:A mileage allowance is paid in respect of mileage undertaken in the course of business.
Pension:Group Personal Pension scheme
Overall Responsibility
The post-holder will oversee the efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of a wide range of donated goods including furniture, bicycles, scrap metal, wood, mattresses and household items.
They will ensure productivity and turnover targets are met and maintain computerised administration systems. They will supervise a team of workers and volunteers and provide training and support to staff.
Main Areas of Responsibility
Warehouse Management
- Liaising with customers, suppliers and Shop Managers
- Planning and monitoring the storage, delivery and dispatch of orders
- Coordinating the use of automated and computerised systems
- Responding to and dealing with customer communication by email, fax and telephone
- Producing regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
- Maintaining standards of health and safety, hygiene and security in the work environment e.g. ensuring that stock such as chemicals are stored safely
- Overseeing the planned maintenance of machinery and equipment
Stock Control
- Ensuring quality, delivery budget and environmental objectives are met
- Assist in moving stock with van team and re:furb volunteers.
- Keeping stock control systems up to date
- To ensure a selection of stock for supply to satellite stores, according to East Belfast Mission’s standards
- To ensure that the shop, stock room and other facilities are clean, tidy and safe at all times
- To comply with all current legislation on the sale of second hand furniture and electrical goods
- To train for PAT portable electrical appliance testing certificate and test all electrical items coming through shop, as directed
Staff
- Work closely with the training providers and re:furb staff
- Motivating, organising and encouraging teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met
- Responsibility for managing and training a team of volunteers
Health and Safety
- Ensure that the workplace for which the post holder is responsible is maintainedappropriately and in accordance with East Belfast Mission’s Health and Safety Policy and relevant Health and Safety Legislation.
- Train and supervise staff and volunteers in relevant Health and Safety procedures

- Observe equality of opportunity in all areas of the day-to-day work for which the post holder has responsibility
- Comply with current legalisation and good practice surrounding disposal and recycling of non sellable items
- Attend team meetings and undertake training as agreed with the Social Economy Manager
- Actively participate in the implementation of the Performance Appraisal System
- Undertake any other duties which may from time to time be requested by the Furniture Restoration Project Manager or Social Economy Manger, which are commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
Personnel Specification
Essential criteria
- One year’s experience in a retail and/ or warehouse environment
- Experience of supervising staff and/or volunteers
- Clean Driving licence with category C1
- Excellent communication skills
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
- A high level of organisation,attention to detail and high standard of accuracy
- Excellent team working and interpersonal skills
- Positive and flexible approach
- No health problems that would adversely affect the ability to carry out duties (manual handling is required)
Desirable criteria
- A relevant qualification in Health & Safety
- A recognisable qualification in first aid
- PATS qualification
