General scope of work

Twenty-five Lead Master Trainers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be engaged in supporting the capacity development of Master Trainers through a programme of training, mentoring and monitoring in a teaching environment.

Place of assignment

Trainings will take place at Peshawar and Abbottabad with frequent visits to the various districts where trainings will also take place.

Please note that due to the distance factor, only the CVs of applicants who are based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in Islamabad / Rawalpindi will be considered.

Nature of engagement

Freelance capacity.

Engagement period

·  A total of 100 days over a period of 3 years.

·  The local lead master trainer will be heavily engaged in the first year of the project with a maximum of 70 days of engagement.

·  Over the 2nd and 3rd year the engagement days will be 15 days each.

The local lead master trainers will be required to attend mandatory training of 5 days each year, as and when arranged by the British Council through their own training consultant.

Project description

British Council Pakistan aims to conduct a wide-scale teacher training intervention for primary school teachers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This intervention is designed to support the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s move towards an English Medium of Instruction in public-sector primary schools.

To achieve this, a group of 25 Lead Master Trainers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be responsible for training Master Trainers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

British Council Pakistan is seeking applications from qualified and self-motivated individuals.

Role description

The local Lead Master Trainers will be required to conduct the trainings as per the guidelines by the British Council Pakistan. They will be required to:

1.  agree work plan and timelines.

  1. enhance the knowledge and capacity of Master Trainers.
  2. deliver training programmes as per requirements.
  3. develop and submit training reports regarding the training performances.
  4. conduct classroom observations, focus group discussions etc.
  5. be engaged in a mentoring capacity for Master Trainers.
  6. be engaged in monitoring and evaluation activity.
  7. meet the Master Trainers’ needs and expectations.

9.  coordinate closely with the training coordinator / contact person as selected by the government department.

It is anticipated that this consultancy will require a maximum of 100 days, per Lead Master Trainer, to be completed over 3 years.


Outputs expected from this consultancy: Local Master Trainers are trained in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to train primary school teachers of English.

Qualifications and experience required

The successful consultants will meet the following essential criteria:

Qualification:

·  MA English ELT, TEFL, TESOL or other relevant qualification at the same level

·  CEFR Level C (CEFR - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Experience:

·  5 to 7 years teaching experience in teaching classes 1 to 2 in primary school(s).

·  2 to 3 years teacher training experience.

·  proven experience of delivering assignments of similar nature.

·  knowledge of the English language learning and teaching environment in the government and private schools/school systems in Pakistan.
