Job title: Sessional Wellbeing Tutor(Maternity Cover)

Department: Skylight Merseyside

Reporting to: Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinator

Aim

  • Deliver physical relaxation and wellbeing sessions to homeless and vulnerable people in order to improve their health and wellbeing

Circumstances

  • A satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for this role
  • This is a sessional maternity cover role for a period six months
  • 2-6 hours per week

Background

Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change.

Crisis Skylight, our award winning and accredited education, training and employment services, offer practical and creative workshops with formal learning opportunities that lead to qualifications and finding work. Crisis has Skylight centres open in London, Oxford and Newcastle and operates outreach services in Merseyside, Birmingham, South Yorkshire and Edinburgh.

In Merseyside, Skylight services are delivered mainly on an outreach basis in existing homeless and community facilities. Our locations cover Liverpool, Wirral, South Sefton and St. Helens. In future years we plan to increase the range and depth of the services on offer and extend our services to North Sefton and Knowsley.

The Role

You will be recruited to deliver weekly wellbeing sessions at sites across Merseyside as part of our winter term timetable programme. Your role will be to develop the wellbeing and confidence of clients taking part in the sessions.

Principal accountabilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver yoga/ relaxation sessions on a weekly basis across Merseyside
  • Complete all related administrative tasks including completing registers and supporting

clients to complete first contact forms and feedback forms

  • Work with Mental Health and Wellbeing coordinator to ensure smooth running of courses
  • Create supportive and welcoming sessions for all clients who take part

General accountabilities

  • Actively encourage and support member involvement within CrisisDevelop and share teaching and learning materials with the team and with other Skylight centres
  • Promote well-being and development of the organisation internally and externally
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
  • Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Must have experience in teaching yoga
  2. Experience in planning, preparing and delivering wellbeing, yoga/ relaxation sessions
  3. Experience of working within a mental health, wellbeing or homelessness setting
  4. Experience of working in a community based setting and/or working with vulnerable adults
  5. Ability to develop own learning materials to support client’s development
  6. Ability to lead the group in an informal but structured way
  7. An active commitment to equal opportunities and social inclusion
  8. The capacity to effectively work both independently and in teams
  9. The willingness to reflect upon and develop own practice
  10. The passion for learning, creativity and innovation
  11. Ability to travel between sites across Merseyside

Desirable

  1. A teaching qualification such as a preparatory certification in education and training
