Purpose of the role

To contribute to the smooth and efficient running of theUniversity’s Curriculum Centre. The Senior Learning Resources Assistant will primarily be responsible for assisting with the organisation and co-ordination of the publicity and marketing activities of the Centre,assist with the management and organisation of resources and systems in the Centre (with particular responsibility for the Children’s Literature collection) and assist the Centre Co-ordinator in the delegated management of the devolved funding allocation to the Centre, including the planning and monitoring of expenditure within the annual budget.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • To respond to the needs of Centre users, including staff and students, in locating and using resources; to include recommending appropriate areas for consideration / investigation;
  • In liaison with the Centre Co-ordinator, to manage the efficient use of the Centre space and optimise its use for both teaching and independent learning and research;
  • To ensure the Centre and its users operate in a safe environment, in accordance with relevant health and safety guidelines;
  • To participate in the induction of new academic staff and student cohorts as appropriate, providing advice and guidance in relation to the Centre’s operation and its systems;
  • To provide cover for the Centre Co-ordinator in their absence, including supporting provision of extended opening hours (including occasional Saturday mornings during term time by mutual agreement);
  • To assist with the organisation and co-ordination of the publicity and marketing activities of the School of Education’s Curriculum Centre;
  • To support the work of teaching staff and research curriculum areas located in the Centre by providing information on resources, identifying / sourcing potential new purchases and making recommendations for consideration / approval by subject teaching staff;
  • To contribute to the efficient operation of the Centre’s resources database (Heritage) and support the Learning Resources Assistant and other staff in its ongoing use, development and maintenance;
  • To maintain accurate and inclusive financial recording systems for the Centre, including budget monitoring for individual subject areas and the Centre as a whole, to ensure that expenditure is kept within budget;
  • To undertake purchasing for the Centre, including processing orders, passing invoices for payment, and ensuring cost-effective purchasing policies are pursued in accordance with the university’s financial regulations.

  • Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.
  • This is a part-time post of 15 hours per week and is permanent.
  • Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, are pro-rated for part time employees.
