Job Title: Retail Shop Manager - Furniture
Responsible to: Retail AreaManager
People you will be working with:
Retail Team, Retail Office Staff, Van Drivers, Other Retail Shop Management, Retail Marketing, Shop Volunteers, All Hospice staff and Volunteers
Donors, General Public and Contractors
Where will you be working:
The post is based at an individual shop. Some travel may be required to the hospices, Retail Distribution Centre and to other shops in Sussex and South East Hampshire. The role will involve managing and supporting in other shops as requested.
Job purpose:
To develop the full sales and profit potential from the shop.To enhance the St Barnabas and Chestnut Tree House Hospices’ profile within the community.
Principal duties and responsibilities
Management
- Maximise the revenue fromthe shop, through sales from donated and new goods
- Ensure the shop team deliver high standards of customer service
- Manage the shop in line with budgeted targets and retail KPIs and monitor shop performance against those targets
- Initiate and implement sales promotions, stock generation activities and income from new goods
- Establish and encourage a safe environment that embraces new ideas and creativity
- Achieve the highest standards of merchandising and shop layouts
- Generate sales, and accurately record the ordering and delivery of furniture items
Staff Management
- Help recruit and retain the highest standard of staff and volunteers helping them reach their full potential through training and personal development
- Be responsible for the welfare of the staff and volunteers and for maintaininggood team morale and motivation
Shop Operations
- Ensure the shop operates in line with retail policies and procedures
- After full training, ensure that all statutory regulations are met regarding Health and Safety requirements, trading standards, and employment legislation.
- Assist or, on occasion, run other shops within the Retail estate as required
Person Specification
Qualifications / Experience
Good standard of general education to GCSE level in Maths and English or equivalent and/or qualified by experience
Proven leadership experience
Previous retail experience in either in the charity, fashion, furniture or hospitality sectors
Retail management experience with budget accountability
Desirable
Experience of working with and managing volunteers
Training experience
Understanding of how to best present and display products for sale
Experience in the fashion/furniture retail sector
Skills
Sales and customer service orientated
Results and targets orientated
Numerate with the ability to interpret financial reports
Able to successfully manage high volume and varied workloads with little supervision
Good organisational skills with the ability to manage tasks simultaneously
Able to communicate confidently with a wide range of people with sensitivity
Well-developed interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and support individuals
Able to assess situations and defuse conflict situations positively and tactfully
Computer literacy desirable
Commitment to positively promote the hospices and our work
Personal grief resolved sufficiently to perform & cope in an environment that has potential exposure to bereavement concerns
Knowledge
Local geographical knowledge
Awareness of collectables / antiques/fashion labels desirable, but not essential.
Physical Demands
Unpredictable as the role involves dealing with unknown donations and awkward loads.
Physically demanding: standing, bending, lifting, walking and the role may involve moving stock up and down stairs or from exterior premises
Other Duties
Undertake any other duty, as may reasonably be required from time to time, at the direction of your line manager.
