Summary of Position:

Resource Advocates provide the direct case management and advocacy services to enable homeless guests of Springs Rescue Mission to complete their personal journey off the streets and into permanent housing. Advocates do this by connecting guests to benefits and services that will enable them to become financially self-sufficient.

Those we serve often have serious mental illness, substance abuse and physical disabilities and benefit from frequent contact with a compassionate advocate. Advocates help our guests articulate desire for change, plan change and execute the steps to become permanently housed and stable members of our community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for client intake, service planning, linkage, referral, and monitoring.
  • Manage caseload of individuals.
  • Utilize computerized tracking as case management and systems utilization tool; participate in HMIS as instructed.
  • Complete all recordkeeping and documentation in a thorough and timely manner; maintain client confidentiality.
  • Participate in open, collaborative communication with other RAP personnel, consulting with Director as necessary to ensure compliance with SRM/RAP standards and policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of community resources to support recovery of individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and Substance Abuse (SA),
  • Apply for food stamps, financial assistance, and disability programs for guests as appropriate
  • Work with partner agencies to identify and address client needs and make referrals as appropriate.
  • As directed and when appropriate work collaboratively with other SRM programs to assist in coordination and delivery of case management and services.
  • Give basic instruction to guests and volunteer workers.
  • Responsible for the appearance, organization and client flow in the waiting area. Work collaboratively with other SRM staff to advance the ministry of SRM; attend staff meetings and other meetings as requested.Complete monthly statistical reporting and submit by deadline for compilation of monthly report
  • Complete other reporting as directed
  • Attend meetings and perform other related duties as requested.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Committed Christian with a heart to serve and assist the mentally ill, poor, addicted, and disenfranchised.
  • Able and willing to share in word and action the transforming message of the Gospel.
  • Willing and able to honor, uphold and advance the mission statement and values of Springs Rescue Mission.
  • Able to relate to professionals and clinicians in many disciplines, consumers, other community agencies and the public.
  • Knowledge of the community, other agencies and resources that will benefit homeless and extremely low-income individuals.
  • Experience working with SMI/SA and homeless populations
  • Experience providing case management and resource coordination in complex, multi-agency environment.
  • Computer literate, proficient in Word, Excel, internet and email
  • Organized, patient, and solution oriented.
  • Highly ethical, able and willing to maintain confidentiality and operate with program and organizational parameters.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred, in relevant field
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience with increasing responsibilities
  • Experience using database management tools

  • Frequent and regular interaction with low-income and disenfranchised population including but not limited to mentally ill, addicted and homeless

  • Work will be performed in a typical office environment
