Job Title: Research Associate/Fellow

School/Department: Faculty of Engineering - Power Electronics Machines & Control Group

Salary: £25,769 - £37,768 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £28,982 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

Job Family and Level: Research and Teaching Level 4 Career Training Grade/Level 4

Contract Status: Fixed-term until 9 July 2017

Hours of Work: Full-time (36.25 hours per week)

Location: University Park

Reporting to: Dr Michael Galea

Purpose of the Role:

The successful candidate will undertake research on Electrical Machine Design and analysis for industrial projects, including automotive applications.

Main Responsibilities / % time per year
1. / To deliver research as part of a collaborative team and contribute to the achievement of specific research objectives as defined by line manager / 60
2. / To collaborate in writing papers for submission to journals and conferences and prepare progress reports on the results of research / 20
3. / To present the results of research at project progress meetings and at conferences / 10
4. / To assist in the co-ordination of the research and related administrative tasks, including liaising with external project collaborators and providing assistance with supervision of doctoral students / 10

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education / ·  Good (2.1) first degree (or equivalent) in electrical/electronic engineering or a related subject
·  PhD or equivalent (or near completion) in the design or modelling of electrical machines / ·  Research experience related to electrical machine design
Skills/Training / ·  Research skills

·  Expertise in electromagnetic FE software / ·  Practical skills in electrical machine design
·  Skills in modelling various electrical machine topologies
·  Familiar with thermal and mechanical issues of electrical machines
·  Implementation of machine models using C/C++
·  Use of FE softwares such as MotorCad and Infolytica MagNet
Experience / ·  Experience in a research environment
·  Experience of electrical machine research / ·  Experience of interior permanent magnet motors
·  Knowledge and experience of characterisation and testing of permanent magnet machines
·  Knowledge and experience of thermal modelling
·  Knowledge and experience in designing of electrical machines for automotive applications
