Job Summary:

Responsible for the evaluation of raw materials, work in progress, and finished products, in addition to providing support to the operations department to troubleshoot issues and perform line inspections.

Essential Functions:

1. Conducts analysis of raw materials and finished goods, including the proper execution of the setup, operation, documentation, and interpretation of test results. Quality checks of raw material and finished goods samples may include the following: Taste, Odor, Visual Check/Moisture/Hunter Color/Sieve/Ash/Bulk Density/Extractable Color/Nitrite Level/Volatile Oil/Water Activity/Obtaining and reviewing vendor COAs/Preparing and logging samples for external chemical testing, microbial testing, and customer pre-shipments /UV Spectrophotometry/Requesting or gathering samples as needed /Disposition changes

2. Conduct daily inspection of production lines and processes including verification of metal detectors, weight checks, equipment functionality,packaging sealintegrity, and adherance to GMPs.

3.Provide coaching and guidance to operations to maintain product integrity and safety

4.Effectively identify whenproduct is considered non-conforming and follow up according to documented processes for segregation and disposition.

5. Contacts vendors to request information as needed

6. Participate in the environmental monitoring program, including swabbing, corrective actions, trend analysis, and continuous improvement

7. Perform allergen cleaning verification swabbing, testing, and follow up on corrective actions as required

8.Perform shelf life evaulations to determine disposition of raw materials and finished product outside defined shelf life

9.Perform root cause analysis of production issues and follow up on actions

10.Assist operations with immediate product or facility troubleshooting issues

11. Process Improvement Request (PIR) write ups, investigation, and follow up

12. Prepare and send Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) per customers' request, ensure customer requirements are up to date and correct in electronic system

13. Identify and assist in the removal of personal safety barriers

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

College diploma in a scientific field such as food science, chemistry, or biology or equvilent experience is required. Must have experience with good laboratory practices. Experience in the food industry is preferred. Must read and write English. Basic computer, math, and good communication skills required. Must successfully pass Sensory Evaluation Screening. Must be willing to confront employees and supervisors when necessary to ensure that cGMP, food safety, safety, and quality procedures are executed as planned.

Quality:

Must possess, demonstrate and follow all instructions, procedures and guidelines set forth in all applicable Wixon/ISO/department policies to assure continued quality product is produced.

Physical Demands:

Physical stamina to withstand extended periods of standing, walking of greater than eight hours or more. Must be able to climb stairs to platforms (up to 12 ft high)

Working Conditions:

Exposure to hazards of an industrial environment including noise, dust, hazardous materials, allergens, machinery and lift equipment.
