Job Title:Programme Lead

Accountable to:Chief Executive

Salary:£38-42K

Location:166 Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

Status:Permanent full-time post (34.5 hours)

  1. Alcohol Focus Scotland’s purpose and vision

Alcohol Focus Scotland’s primary purpose is to reduce the harm caused by alcohol. This will be achieved by bringing about a significant reduction in alcohol consumption across the population thus creating a beneficial effect on public health and well-being.

  1. Job purpose

To lead, develop and monitor AFS’s programmes of work. To support the Chief Executive in the delivery of the strategic priorities as defined by the Board and outlined in the strategic plan. To deliver the job purpose the post holder will:

  • Lead, develop and monitor AFS’s programmes of work, overseeing delivery and ensuring that programmes are evidence-based, outcome-focussed and fully aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to the development and oversightof a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess AFS’s effectiveness.
  • Provide written and verbal reports to the Chief Executive and AFS Board.
  • Provide written and verbal reports to AFS funders.
  • Prioritise and manage staff and financial resources required to deliver programmes of work to ensure the delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Represent AFS in meetings, print and broadcast media and at events and conferences as required.
  • Plan and contribute to senior management team meetings and reports.
  • Identify and respond to income generation opportunities to support the development of work programmes and activity.
  • Support the Chief Executive to deliver AFS’s values, mission, vision and objectives as described in AFS’s strategic plan.
  1. Core competencies

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate core competencies in at least three of the core functions of the organisation. Alcohol Focus Scotland’s core functions are:

  • Ability to articulatecomplex messageseffectively to a range of audiences.
  • Experience of contributing to strategic planning, management and governance.
  • Experience of financial management (including overseeing budgets) and of income generation.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Successful leader who can motivate and lead a team to achieve strategic objectives and outcomes.
  • Confident, strategic thinker and problem solver with the ability to analyse complex issues and offer a choice of solutions.
  • High level of strategic planning experience and proven experience of translating strategy into effective and successful operational plans.
  • Knowledge of the alcohol policy context in Scotland and awareness of the UK, European and international context.
  • Understanding of evidence based policy and legislative developments in relation to the reducing the social, health and economic harm and inequality caused by alcohol.
  • Excellent communicator who can articulate the organisation’s vision and direction to a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent networking skills and demonstrable ability to persuasively influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communications and experience of report writing.
  • Ability to undertake financial planning and identify and respond to income generating opportunities.

Desirable

  • Experience of policy development at national and international level.
  • Experience of interacting with print and broadcast media and experience of acting as an organisational spokesperson.
  • Experience of senior management within the voluntary sector.
  • Awareness of human rights, equality and inclusion issues as they affect people who experience disadvantage.
  1. Responsibilities of all Alcohol Focus Scotland staff
  • Manage and prioritise workload and ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Maintain positive and constructive working relationships with all members of the Alcohol Focus Scotland staff team and ensure that all staff are kept up to date with relevant issues and developments.
  • Undertake all work in a pro-active, professional and enthusiastic way and contribute to team activity across work programmes as required.
  • Undertake relevant professional development activities and training as agreed with line manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality, as appropriate, with sensitive or privileged information, including day to day observance of data protection guidelines.
  • Adhere to all internal and external policies, procedures and contribute constructively, as required, to their ongoing development.
  • If required, work outside normal working hours for which time off in lieu (TOIL) will be given.
  • Key holders should secure premises as necessary.
