1. Job Purpose
To provide cost effective operational supervision, direction, maintenance and coordination of Parks and Reserves in relation to turf maintenance and reticulation, ensuring all works are undertaken expediently and economically to the City’s specified standards and City’s established levels of service within the Department’s operational budget to maximise service delivery to the community.
2. Organisational Context
The position of Supervisor Reticulation & Mowing is part of the Maintenance Operations branch within the Infrastructure Services department. In total, 5 branches report to the Infrastructure Services Director. Other branches include Fleet Services, Project Design & Delivery, Sport & Leisure and Engineering Services.
3. Key Accountabilities
· Provide leadership and supervision to ensure Parks & Reserves activities are planned and completed effectively and safely, on a forward program basis, to the City’s defined standards, within agreed timeframes.
· Liaise with Managers, coordinators, facilitators and other department employees and external agencies, businesses and the public as required to ensure that the City provides quality Parks and Reserves.
· Coordinate material, service supply, plant and equipment requirements and other resources required to undertake Parks and Reserves maintenance projects and works.
· Monitor staff to ensure operation of machinery is undertaken within current industry and Worksafe guidelines.
· Daily reporting on the Parks and Reserves team operations.
· Implementing process improvements in relation to maintenance practices and projects.
· Ensure all relevant affected residents and businesses are advised in advance of maintenance works.
· Ensure requests (internal/external) allocated by the Coordinator Parks are investigated, responded to and actioned in a quality and timely manner to manage the City’s public liability and provide the services in accordance with established departmental customer service charter.
· Program team facilitators and employees to provide a comprehensive service to ensure public safety and reduce risks associated with Parks and Reserves throughout the City.
· Undertake specific maintenance projects under the guidance of the Coordinator Parks and Manager Maintenance Operations and as provided for in the annual Parks budget.
· Liaise with the Coordinator Parks and Manager Maintenance Operations and other supervisors to ensure that plant and contractors are available as required, to maximise the productivity
· Responsible for the detailed costing of annual works budget programs in liaison with the Technical Support team.
· Take steps to ensure that the City Values are practised by all employees throughout the Parks Team and that appropriate action is taken to report and rectify any deviation from the City Values.
· Liaise with Coordinator Parks and Manager Maintenance Operations to assist in the management of annual Parks & Reserves budget
· Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely submission of time sheets
· Relieve the Coordinator Parks when on leave.
· Other duties as reasonably directed by the Coordinator Parks and Manager Maintenance Operations within skills, training and experience.

Qualifications and Experience
• Tertiary Qualification or equivalent experience in Amenity Horticulture or related field.
• Qualification or equivalent experience in Turf Management or related field (desirable)
• Current “C” Class driver licence
• Basic Road Traffic Management qualification (desirable).
• Senior First Aid and Blue/White Construction Safety Card
• Sound experience in staff supervision and management of a diverse and / or multiple work teams, with experience of staff engagement through team mentoring / coaching
• High standards of responsibility and ability to exercise quality control with a knowledge of policies and procedures relating to reticulation and mowing
Knowledge and Skills
• Comprehensive written communication skills including the ability to produce timely written reports, prepare and cost monitor budgets and scope of works and complete general administrative tasks
• Comprehensive ability to plan and implement work tasks as per annual work program to ensure timely actions in accordance with defined work standards, with the ability to solve common or on the job problems
• Sound interpersonal, verbal, negotiation/conflict resolution and customer liaison skills
• Sound knowledge of computer software programs including MS Word, Excel, MS Project and Outlook
• Sound knowledge of maintenance practices associated with parks and reserves
• Demonstrated values of service, trust, accountability, respect and solidarity and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement principles
