Job Summary

Directs and controls the operation of the Pizza Department by understanding related work areas, effectively supervising department personnel, ordering merchandise, ensuring customer service and product quality, freshness and selection. Coordinates and manages the department operations so as to control costs, meet targeted labor, maintain projected profit margins, and meet or exceed sales goals.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees by motivating, training, participating in the hiring of personnel, monitoring employee performance, recommending personnel action (i.e., hiring, firing, layoff and disciplinary action, scheduling personnel according to coverage needs and service level), maintaining a safe and secure work environment, etc.
  • Maintains and encourages an atmosphere of fast, friendly, courteous customer service.
  • Performs customer relation duties and engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
  • Meets departmental projected sales and gross margin objectives by creating effective promotional and seasonal displays, overseeing cost/quality control and preventing shrink and controlling expenses.
  • Ensures adequate product quantity, quality and freshness by ordering, checking, receiving and controlling inventory; preventing the sale of out-dated products, taking periodic inventories of all items, computing gross profit, processing administrative paperwork, maintaining accurate department recods, preparing and cooking food item, announcing in-store advertisements over the intercom, etc.
  • Ensures cleanliness, sanitation and eye-appeal of work area, equipment, etc. Maintains a safe/secure work environment.
  • Oversees and is accountable for cash register transactions (e.g. voids, refunds, coupons etc).
  • Performs all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
  • Maintains knowledge of PLU codes and ensures proper pricing (e.g. PLU codes not on file, pricing errors, hard to scan UPC codes etc).
  • Issues voids and refunds by recording information, processing the refund for the customer etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Providing leadership through skills in communication, interpersonal, management of people, customerrelations, and employee relations, analysis, planning orders, judgment, reaction to business activity, etc.
  • Communicate (hearing & speech) with in-store personnel and outside individuals.
  • Conduct visual inspections, read reports, computer screens, etc.
  • Performing safe/quick movements and operate related equipment listed below with manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • Performing basic math (add, subtract, divide and multiple) and compute weights and measures.

Ability to:

  • Perform supervisory skills (e.g., interviewing, scheduling, hiring, counseling, training, disciplining, etc.).
  • Understand overall company practices through previous experience in meat department or equivalent.
  • Reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 40 lbs. frequently.
  • Perform repetitious arm movements for balling, rolling and preparing various pizza products.
  • Stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, twist and turn frequently.
  • Learn taste, content and perishability of products, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies.
  • Perform duties with mental alertness involving potential hazards with respect to related procedures, equipment (e.g., knives, band saws), and work aides.
  • Work around machinery emitting heat or in cold conditions.
  • Understand state & federal regulations if certification is needed.
  • Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.

Additional Requirements:

  • Food Handlers Certification (Per State Laws)

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Pallet jack, kitchen utensils and knives, digital scale, slicer, mixer, ovens, dough machine and shrink wrapper.
  • Computer terminal.
  • Cash Register
