Role purpose

To provide management information reports on panel member and legal assessor performance that support a culture of continuous improvement, pro-actively identifying areas where panel members and legal assessors require support, guidance and/or training.

To support the Panel ContractPerformance Manager in keeping under review the conduct and performance of Panel Members and Legal Assessors who play a key role in the NMCs public protection remit.

To contribute to improvements in the quality of decisions made at Fitness to Practise events by maintaining systems and processes for the recording, review and reporting of panel members and legal assessorconduct and performance.

Key accountabilities

Performance and business support

  • Analysing, maintaining and developing systems and processes for the accurate recording and summary of reported conduct and performance issues relating to panel members and legal assessors
  • Capture, summarise and accurately record information from a wide variety of sources, including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Update and maintain informationabout panel members such as contact details, terms of office,numbers of days sat.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to systems and processes based on analysis of data collated by the wider team
  • Analysefeedback on panel member and legal assessor performance from a range of sourcesandinform thePanel Contract Performance Manager where individual concerns are identified
  • Gather and investigate information when performance issues are raised and assist Panel Contract Performance Manager in meetings with panel members and legal assessors regarding performance concerns.
  • Contribute to the decisions made by the Decision Review Group and ensure any actions requied are completed at the earliest opportunity
  • Work with the Panel Contract Performance Manager to set benchmarks for quality decision making at fitness to practise events and undertake regular reviews of the decisions made against the standards expected
  • Observe fitness to practise events and provide feedback to panel members and legal assessors on performance and feedback where performance can be improved

Team Working

  • Participate actively in team and directorate meetings
  • Share information and ideas within the team as appropriate
  • Work flexibly to support other areas of the team when necessary
  • Communicate and liaise with other teams in order to improve systems and progress discrete pieces of project work that contribute to the work of the team.

Communication

  • Acknowledge and respond to complaints about panel members and legal assessors, in line with corporate requirements
  • Provide information to colleagues, panel members and stakeholders, as required
  • Reply to general enquiries about the work of the teamand FtP panel members and legal assessors
  • Provide information about the work of panel members and legal assessors for the NMC website and iNet.
  • Draft reports on panel member and legal assessors for the Senior Leadership Team and the Appointments Board

Qualifications and experience

  • Educated to ‘A’ level or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience
  • Proven experience of analysing and producing management information
  • Proven track record of delivering successful outcomes within a performance management framework
  • Experience of working in a team within a busy environment
  • Experience of maintaining and improving operational systems and processes
  • Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Understanding of a regulatory framework would be an advantage, although not essential

  • Expert understanding of Microsoft excel and ability to record and analyse data using excel spreadsheets
