Background

This new role has been developed with new funding to deliver our Move On Programme of activities.

Main Purpose of the Job

To further inspire, challenge and support homeless young people who are already engaged with CTS’s other services to enable them to move on in their lives. This will involve direct delivery of one-to-one casework and via a new team of volunteer mentors. Outcomes could include supporting clients to begin volunteering opportunities, access training or employment and secure accommodation.

To work with the Services Manager and the other frontline service delivery co-ordinators to ensure homeless young people progress from needing crisis support into engagement with activities and get the support they need to move on.

Job Description

Caseworking/Service Delivery

  • Engage with and support a weekly caseload of young people who are ready to move into accessing a range of other services, as well as education, training, employment and where possible, permanent accommodation
  • In partnership, provide outreach in locations where homeless young people, those who are insecurely housed and those at risk of homelessness can be engaged in move on support
  • Work with young people to develop personal action plans that are implemented with support and regular review
  • Use the Outcomes Star to monitor clients’ progression
  • Ensure client case files are kept and input key client and volunteer monitoring data is inputted in to the system

Volunteer Management

  • Develop, recruit, train and support a team of mentoring volunteers who support young people to implement their move on action plans including providing advocacy / mentoring support outside of the centre
  • Facilitate regular volunteer mentor supervision meetings ensuring that mentors feel supported and that key issues are recorded and discussed at staff team meetings
  • Provide regular communication to volunteers about the benefits and results of caseworking activities to encourage them to promote the service to clients

Other

  • Deal with safeguarding Issues with volunteers and the Services Manager
  • Contribute to the development of the organisation’s monitoring and evaluation requirements, considering the needs of funders, the organisation and the service users
  • Work closely with the Crisis Support Co-ordinator and the Youth Work Co-ordinator to ensure that activities/caseworking support young people to think about moving on in their lives
  • Participate in regular training and supervision as required
  • Undertake other tasks as are deemed reasonable for the role

Person specification

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Work with vulnerable young people aged between 16 and 25
  • Engage and support a case load of homeless young people and support and motivate them to move on in their lives
  • Work in a homeless setting and understanding of legislation and key services as they relate to homeless young people
  • Have a strong knowledge of support services (both voluntary and statutory) that are available to meet clients’ needs
  • Take a multi-agency approach to supporting homeless young people in crisis
  • Understand the barriers that young people face in engaging with services
  • Recruit, train and manage a team of volunteers
  • Have the ability to manage work/caseload to meet agreed targets and keep clear professional boundaries
  • Communicate information that may be complex or contentious, including the ability to persuade and successfully convince others of the need to take a specific course of action
  • Use IT effectively, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel, and maintaining accurate records
  • Organise and prioritise work and co-ordinate a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way – including effective reports – and meet agreed deadlines
