JOB TITLE: Motor Vehicle Vocational Tutor

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of College

JOB PURPOSE: To meet high professional standards in teaching and learning in the Motor Vehicle Department in order to ensure that student’s knowledge, understanding and achievement is of the highest levels within motor vehicle studies.

DATE: SEPTEMBER 2017

ROLE: The post holder will teach and manage learning for a range of motor vehicle courses at levels Entry Level to level 2 to small groups of young learners aged 16-25 who may have profound learning difficulties including AHD and SEMH. In addition the post holder will provide enrichment and taster courses to KS3 and KS4 students as required.

THE POST HOLDER WILL:

  • Ensure high standards of student’s attainment and progress in motor vehicle studies
  • Promote high expectations and provide a safe and secure learning environment for staff and students in the vocational areas
  • Contribute to curriculum and self-development

  • To lead high quality teaching and learning in motor vehicle studies
  • To have a passion for motor vehicle studies and their development as a curriculum area within the College

Teaching and Learning

  • To contribute to schemes of work and curriculum materials for motor vehicle studies in the College
  • To plan effective lessons matching the design of the lesson to the ability of the students
  • To use student data to inform planning and progression
  • To have high expectations of students based on a sound knowledge of their prior and potential attainment
  • To take account of the need for progression in the student’s learning experience and be accountable for student attainment
  • To ensure effective whole class, group or individual opportunities are available to students
  • To set high standards of expectations of student’s behaviour through good classroom discipline, focused teaching and productive relationships
  • To set and assess any course/homework as an integral part of student’s learning
  • To use opportunities to reinforce literacy and numeracy skills within the teaching
  • To use enterprising approaches to teaching and learning when appropriate
  • To effectively deliver the tutorial programme when required to do so
  • To contribute to the extra-curricular activities programme for students, particularly the provision of taster sessions for students who wish to experience the courses on offer in motor vehicle and engineering

Management of the Curriculum Area

  • To apply best value for money principles in using the College’s resources
  • To ensure that the all teaching and learning accommodation provides a positive and safe environment which promotes well-being and high achievement for all in the college
  • Ensure the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) and any subsequent amendments are met within the motor vehicle workshops and engineering learning spaces

Community and Partnership

  • To work closely and in partnership with Managers, the Principal & Senior Leadership Team to ensure the successful ongoing development of the College.
  • To work in partnership with all schools and institutions affiliated with Goldwyn School / College
  • To develop programmes and access and use of the motor vehicle workshop and engineering facilities, both during and outside term time where appropriate and agreed with both the Manager and Principal

Developing Self and Working with Others

  • To give clear and constructive feedback to students on how to move towards the next level or grade
  • To work as a team member, identifying opportunities for working with colleagues and sharing good practices
  • To set an example to students in work ethic, conduct, dress code, punctuality and attendance
  • To take responsibility for one’s own professional development and keeping up to date in subject expertise and teaching skills
  • To maintain effective working relationships with teaching and supporting staff
  • To keep an accurate register of attendance and encourage excellent punctuality and attendance
  • To liaise with parents/carers and other schools as appropriate
  • To take a positive approach towards innovation in teaching methodology and subject development
  • To attend College Open days, Parent Evenings, Recruitment events as directed by the Manager or Principal
  • To write student reports and assessments as required
