Job Summary:
Assist Manager of Analytical Services with coordination of the administrative and operational functions, including chemical inventory and disposition of laboratory equipment and supplies, data reporting, Chain of Custody, project management and scheduling.
Essential Functions:
Cooperates on joint projects with other departments and acts as a liaison with the plants and outside contacts. Coordinate laboratory services to outside users.
Coordinate sample container delivery setup and chain of custody procedures for samples delivered to the Analytical Services.
Maintain a record of analytical equipment, supplies and reagents. Facilitate the reorder, replacement or disposal of equipment, supplies and reagents. Review and adjust chemical inventory supplies based on usage.
Supervise and direct the lab assistant, lab aide and Wastewater Analyst III, to ensure adherence to Methods, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and District policies. Direct Quality Control and Quality Assurance on analyses and other duties performed.
Plan short and long term objectives for the department. Sets priorities for utilizing resources. Assists in budget preparation. Prepare specifications for projects. Tally for services received for instrumentation repair, service contracts, equipment rental and outside analyses.
Ensure efficient coordination of activities to meet department objectives. Maintain administrative records, files and statistics including chain of custody, sample control sheets and regulatory reports. Oversee and assist in preparation of monthly regulatory reports.
Critically evaluate information for accuracy and quality. Log in and track samples for compliance with required analyses, analyze data, validate sample chain of custody and inform users of anomalies.
Provide spoken and written information to managers as well as staff. Assist in reporting and disseminating data to users.
Check that all materials are available for projects. Clean, prepare and maintain glassware, laboratory equipment and areas. Order and maintain chemical supplies to ensure compatibility of analytical testing requirements.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or closely related laboratory science field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:Two (2) years relevant laboratory experience.
Specific Skills:Ability to follow analytical laboratory tests, analyze problems, follow detailed oral and written instructions, present ideas clearly in writing and orally, establish effective working relationships.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc:
Knowledge of laboratory procedures. Familiar with Word, Excel and report writer.
Valid Class III state of Ohio Wastewater Analyst Certificate desirable.
Valid Ohio Driver License and a driving record in accordance with the District’s insurance carrier.

May supervise one or more of the following:

Wastewater Analysts I, II, and/or III
Working Conditions:
General office and laboratory environment.
Physical Demands:
A majority to time spent sitting using eye protection with occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and climbing. Less than 10% time spent out of doors in dirty conditions. Off shift and weekend work required.
