A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE KATHLEEN K. “KATHY” WILLIAMS, CERTIFIED ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE, OF COLUMBIA, UPON BEING CHOSEN THE 2006 ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA SOCIETY OF ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVES.

Whereas, Kathleen K. “Kathy” Williams, Certified Association Executive, of Columbia, has been selected as the 2006 Association Executive of the Year by the South Carolina Society of Association Executives; and

Whereas, in being so chosen, she has received the top honor of her profession bestowed upon only twenty association executives since 1985; and

Whereas, Kathy has nearly thirty years of experience in association management, having worked for ten years with the Municipal Association of South Carolina and twenty years with the South Carolina Association of Counties; and

Whereas, she has brought positive professional attention to herself and to her profession nationally and on a statewide basis; and

Whereas, Kathy has demonstrated loyalty, dependability, and a work ethic that is a model to others. Her leadership skills are exemplified by her service as past president of two statewide organizations, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (199394) and the South Carolina Society of Association Executives (200405). In addition, she recently concluded eight years on the South Carolina Retirement Systems Advisory Board and was the outgoing chairman. She has served on numerous other boards to include the Master of Public Administration Advisory Board at the University of South Carolina and the Local Government Records Advisory Council; and

Whereas, Kathy holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of South Carolina. Never content to rest on her laurels, on her own initiative, she participated in one hundred sixty hours of training to graduate from the Institute for Organization Management from the University of Notre Dame. Further, she is one of a handful of association executives in South Carolina who has attained the prestigious Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation; and

Whereas, she is the assistant director of the South Carolina Association of Counties and is a dedicated, professional, and outstanding individual deserving of this recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Kathleen K. “Kathy” Williams, Certified Association Executive, of Columbia, upon being chosen the 2006 Association Executive of the Year by the South Carolina Society of Association Executives.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Kathy Williams.
