Job Title: Lifestyle Assistant

Reports To: Leisure Centre Manager

Responsible For: N/A

1. JOB PURPOSE

The role of Lifestyle Assistant is integral to the day to day running of the centre. You will be responsible for delivering outstanding customer service, providing a safe environment and encouraging our ethos of ‘getting everyone active’. You will facilitate our ‘customers journey’ to ensure they achieve their goals whilst maintaining customer retention.

Activities will include:

Dry Side:Equipment checks

Room set up/take down

Parties

Wet Side:Lifeguarding

Pool layout changes

Health & Fitness:Activations

Programme Design

Group Exercise Classes

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • To undertake general supervision of customers and their activities, ensuring that all centre rules are observed and to take action where appropriate.
  • To ensure the Health and Safety procedures are observed throughout the centre and report any risks,

serious incidents and injuries to staff or customers to the Assistant Manager.

  • To follow the Normal Operating Procedures and carry out any action as detailed in the Emergency Action Plan.
  • To life guard the pool area in accordance with the rota arrangements when on poolside. To carry out pool set ups, rescues, life saving techniques and first aid as necessary.
  • To report abnormal pool and environmental conditions to the Assistant Manager on duty, i.e. colour and clarity of water, odour etc.
  • To prepare rooms for activity usage as directed by the booking system.
  • To deliver high quality gym activations, reviews and fitness assessments in accordance with the Active Fitness Service Plan.
  • To meet, greet and introduce new customers to the gym as well as carry out tours of the gym facilities.
  • Undertake administrative duties and use of the gym’s computer management system.
  • Deliver programmed fitness sessions, Group Exercise Classes and personal training as required.
  • To support environmental systems and procedures to promote healthier lifestyles.

Cleaning

  • To undertake cleaning duties and set up and dismantle equipment as required in accordance with the cleaning matrix.
  • To carry out inspections of gym equipment and maintenance as required in accordance with the specified checklists.

Customer Service

  • To assist customers and ensure customers enjoy a quality experience while at the centre.
  • To provide the highest standard of specialist advice and encouragement to customers.
  • Undertake indoor sports coaching as required.

And any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by Management. Duties may change over time and you will be expected to co-operate where such changes are reasonable.

3. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

Relevant qualification at Level 2 or above (NPLQ, NVQ Leisure, NVQ fitness, Gym Instructor, REPS, Personal trainer) (A, B)

Actively demonstrates commitment to Circadian Trust Staff Charter principles (A,B,C)

DBS certificate (enhanced level)

Desirable

Current First Aid at Work Certificate (A)

Confident Communicator (A,C)

Customer Service Skills (A,B,C)

Experience of working with Customers (A)

Commitment to Teamwork (A,B)

4. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND/OR STRAIN

  • Manual handling of sporting equipment, furniture, deliveries and people
  • The majority of shift will be spent standing or walking
  • Will be required to perform pool rescue and first aid procedures
  • Working at heights when lifeguarding from the high chair positon

5. SPECIAL NOTES OR CONDITIONS

  • Shift work, days, evenings and weekends
  • Uniform provided
  • Cover shifts / overtime available
  • Monthly on-going training (mandatory)
  • You may be required to work at any of the leisure centres.

6. Progression

After 12 months and on gaining all of the requisite qualifications and experience you will be eligible to be considered for the following:
