The Purpose of the Role:
To provide operational support to academics across the University who are involved in the creation and facilitation of distance learning courses and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS). This includes planning, scoping and development to ensure that MOOC design meets required platform style guidelines and exploits appropriate learning technology to enhance the teaching and learning of online students. The role holder will provide general administrative and project planning support to the MOOC project team and the Learning Technology Video Production team. The role holder will also manage and coordinate course development schedules for the MOOC project team and coordinate project related documentation and liaison between all stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities: / % time per year1. / Support
Provide support to academics across the University who are involved in the creation and facilitation of distance learning and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS). This includes planning, scoping and developing online courses to ensure that learning content meets required platform style guidelines and exploits appropriate learning technology.
Operational support also includes monitoring learner usage and identifying improvements to enhance courses delivery. Provide one-to-one and small group advice, training or familiarisation sessions for teaching staff on development standards, platforms and related software tools. Be the liaison point between academic staff and project team. Independently resolve queries relating to course content delivery and decide when to refer to project manager. / 30%
2. / Administration
Provide general administrative support to the MOOC project team and Learning Technology Video Production team, assisting other staff within the Learning Technology Section and Teaching Transformation Project as necessary. Act as the coordinator for project activities, including the planning, coordination of project meetings and course creation and delivery schedules. Provide Administration support to the MOOC steering group by coordinating MOOC steering group meeting dates and papers, noting and following up action points. / 30%
3. / Documentation and policies
Up-date and redraft appropriate design and style guidance in conjunction with MOOC project manager. Advise academic staff on processes for MOOC administration and quality assurance requirements. Maintain catalogue of courses and course schedule liaising with MOOC project manager. Ensure academic staff adheres to University policies and procedures with regard to MOOC quality issues. Draft reports, important correspondence and recommendations for a variety of external and University audiences. Periodically review existing online content, ensuring it reflects current best practice, and proposing enhancements. / 20%
6. / MOOC Stakeholder liaison
Co-ordinate and organise external meetings and calls with external MOOC providers and other MOOC platform partners. Attend MOOC partner forums as appropriate. Co-ordinate and organise meetings with the FutureLearn academic network. Liaise with MOOC platform admin team to ensure smooth administration and working practices between The University and MOOC providers. / 15%

To contribute to the development of Learning Technologies, Transforming Teaching Programme and LRLR strategy, communication and engagement:
· To actively participate in the Learning Technology Section team in order to facilitate management of, and communication within, the Section
· To liaise with colleagues throughout LRLR and TTP to maintain awareness of potential developments and plan for their implementation
· Network with colleagues in other HE or external organizations to explore engagement opportunities in order to generate mutually supportive partnerships
· Presentation of written or oral reports on projects and initiatives
· Representation of the Team/Section on LRLR/University working/collaborative groups and at national conference, committees, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/Education / HNC/HND, or equivalent plus English and maths at GCSE or equivalent OR substantial work experience in further or higher education. / Educated to degree level, or equivalent
Knowledge/Skills/Training / High level of IT skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to integrate different packages.

Additional Information
This is a vital role, involving strategic input, online content creation, co-ordinating and organising the administration of the project team, and ensuring its smooth running, thereby enabling the project team to meet its objectives of high-quality open online learning provision. The role requires the role-holder to work independently and pro-actively to provide a wide range of advice and support to the project director, project manager, academic staff and students. The role-holder is expected to liaise with central support services, academic staff and academic schools in order to ensure the project deliverables are met. They have an important input into the framing of open online course practices and policies with a view to constantly updating them, improving them and making them more efficient.
