Accountability: Head of Strings

Main Purpose of Role:

In close partnership with Lead Teacher – Contemporary Guitar, support the Head of Strings and contribute to the development of classical guitar teaching within the guitar department. Support the highest levels of teaching and learning; ensemble membership and performance; routes of progression; promoting and presenting the work of Berkshire Maestros to the public.

Main Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Head of Strings andLead Teacher – Contemporary Guitar:

  • Create and develop a vibrant guitar department, increasing and retaining the number of pupils learning and engaged with classical guitar through lessons, ensembles, holiday courses, workshops and Guitar Academy
  • Support the Head of Stringsand Head of Academy/Advanced Studies in creating and implementing routes of progressions for, and identifying, Gifted and Talented students
  • Work with the Lead Teacher – Contemporary Guitarto improve the skills of pupils in the early stages of learning to create an holistic approach to the guitar
  • Line manage a number of teachers, working with them to raise standards and expectations in lessons and ensembles
  • Be an ambassador to continue to raise the profile of the guitar in Berkshire and Nationally
  • Any other duties as directed by the CEO which are commensurate with the role

Person Specification:

  • Excellent knowledge of all styles and genres of classical music
  • Experienced and outstanding teacher with a good knowledge of teaching and learning pedagogy
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, innovative and creative – able to prepare and contribute to a constructive and musical atmosphere and able to create workshop opportunities which challenge, inspire and motivate young musicians of all ages and abilities regardless of circumstances
  • Clearly able to demonstrate leadership potential
  • Committed to collaborative Hub working
  • Forward thinking and willing to embrace and explore new ideas and opportunities fully
  • Highly organised with excellent communication skills
  • Flexible, highly motivated and able to use own initiative
  • Have passion and enthusiasm for communicating a love of music to children and young people and display a real determination to develop the contemporary arm of the guitar dept
  • An effective learner with a track record of on-going development
