JOB TITLE:Lead Cashier

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing superior customer service by interacting with customers in an accurate, fast, efficient and courteous manner. Assist in the daily supervision of cashier operations. Performs other duties within the store to promote maximum sales, cultivate customers’ good will and encourage repeat business. Works under the general supervision of store management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Projects a high level of AIE (attitude, intelligence, and enthusiasm) to both external and internal customers.
  • Accurately and efficiently handles all register transactions including sales, returns, layaways, house charges and other related transactions in a courteous manner following company policies and procedures. Provides customers with an accurate receipt of each transaction.
  • Allocates operating funds to cashiers and provides change requests as required. Reconciles and verifies funds received at the completion of each cashier’s shift. Follows up on over/short cash variances with cashiers.
  • Courteously and promptly reconciles customer complaints and concerns.
  • Supervises assigned cashiers and directs workflow in assigned area. Provides initial and ongoing cashier training of all employees. Prepares cashiers’ work schedule and submits for management approval.
  • Documents and notifies store management whenever employees are violating company policy or procedures. Assists Management with employee performance evaluations.
  • Continually educates themselves about products and retains specific knowledge about advertised items.
  • Ensures that the checkout areas are fully stocked, maintained, and orderly.
  • Properly uses and secures two way radios and head sets as assigned.
  • Is aware of potential security, safety and/or shoplifting issues and reports any incidents and/or concerns immediately to management.
  • Able to report to work as scheduled. Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance. Attends and participates in training sessions and monthly store meetings as required.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Opens or closes the store as required.
  • Using approved forms, receives and checks incoming merchandise against invoices or orders to spot shortages, damages and backorders.
  • Accurately prices and displays (i.e. bins, shelves, displays, etc.) merchandise. Assists store management in the annual preparation and taking of the store’s physical inventory.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties (i.e. up keeps a professional appearance of the office, store’s floors, fixtures, restrooms, employee lounge, etc.) Performs general maintenance of the store’s premises (i.e. store entrance, parking lot, receiving, etc.)
  • Performs all related duties of a Cashier and/or Sales Associate.
  • Promptly and accurately performs any other related duties as assigned by store management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Equipment/Tools Used: Occasional use of various store equipment such as glue guns, scissors, stapler, cash register, computer, printers, fax machine, shredder, calculator, telephone, two way radios, headsets etc.

Work Hours: Available flexible hours as required. (Including days, nights, weekends and holidays.) Occasional travel to neighbor islands and to the mainland.

Work Environment: Works under regular store conditions. Occasional exposure to heat, dust, solvents, chemicals, paint, glues, etc.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires attention to detail, concentration and alertness.
  • As directed by management, supervises the work of others in the accomplishments of assigned tasks.
  • Basic mathematical skills (i.e. calculation of fractions, percentages, pricing, discounts, taxes, returns, charges, making change, taking inventory, ordering, verification of quantities, etc.)
  • Ability to work under pressure, demonstrate effective decision-making, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Properly handles confidential information (i.e. payroll, personal files, company material, etc.)
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Organizes work to complete assignments, maintains accuracy, pays attention to detail, and demonstrates customer service standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasional push, pull, and/or lift up to 60 lbs. of materials, including lifting and maneuvering up to 100 lbs. of merchandise using a hand truck.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for durations up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Frequent reaching, twisting, turning, stooping, squatting, crouching, climbing of ladder, grasping and squeezing.
  • Manual dexterity to operate cash register, computer, calculator and misc. hand and/or power tools.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience preferred. Some supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, management, customers and vendors using both verbal and written skills. Able to understand and follow instructions to complete assignments.
