JOB TITLE:Immigration Representative (A), Immigration & Resettlement Services

REPORTS TO:Program Director

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:Non-Exempt

TIME COMMITMENT:Full-time (40 hours/week)

STARTING SALARY:$13.95-$17.44 per hour, depending on level of accreditation and/or education/experience

Position Summary

The Immigration Representative (A) oversees the agency’s immigration program for victims of crime and domestic violence, splitting time between the agency and the Family Justice Center Sonoma County (FJCSC) to assist victims of crime,and interfaceand coordinate with the FJCSC and its partner organizations. S/heis responsible for assisting immigrant victims of crime in applying for immigration benefits for which they are eligible and providing referrals/resources for other human and legal services. S/he also provides public education, outreach, and advocacy on immigration laws and benefits for victims of crime.

Essential Functions

  1. Interview clients to determine eligibility for immigration benefits (i.e. VAWA, I-751 extreme cruelty waivers, and U Visa petitions, as well as related adjustment of status applications). Advise clients regarding recommended strategies for the optimal resolution of their cases.
  1. Prepare client applications and petitions for immigrant victims of crime using computer software and manually, if necessary.
  1. Maintain applications, records, and all required documentation according to program procedures; submit in a timely fashion.
  1. Maintain and increase up-to-date knowledge of immigration law and policies through daily reading (e-mail list serves, publications) and participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training.
  1. Provide outreach, public education, and advocacy in the six-county service area on behalf of immigrant victims of crime and regarding the immigration benefits for which they may qualify.
  1. Make public presentations on immigration issues that affect immigrant victims of crime.

7. Coordinate with the personnel of the FJCSC and its various partner agencies in the running and betterment of that facility, assist clients that come into the FJCSC in the filing of VAWA, U Visa, I-751 and adjustment of status applications, when able. Also, use software provided by the FJCSC to track the services as well as referrals the agency is providing to FJCSC clients.

8.Be thoroughly familiar with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this position in particular and the program or department overall. Perform job functions in line with these policies and procedures.

9.Participate in training required by accreditation standards, plus performance and quality improvement efforts.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Attend meetings, trainings and/or conferences, and report back at the request of program leadership.
  1. Assist with scheduling, organizing and overseeing various program services as needed.
  1. Assist in daily deposit and covering the front desk as needed.

4.Assist in citizenship classes (particularly with oral interviews) and in Refugee Resettlement when extra help is required.

5.Perform other duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  1. High school diploma or equivalent is minimal requirement. College degree highly preferable.
  1. Knowledge of immigration policies and regulations strongly preferred. Willingness to work towardsBIA accreditation.
  1. Successful completion of immigration law training with a grade of “C” or better required to continue in the position.
  1. Strong English writing skills.
  1. Bilingual and biliterate (English/Spanish, or other languages as required by client population).

6.Proficiency in Windows, database programs, and Microsoft Office.

7.Experience or involvement with immigrant community.

8.Demonstrated ability to serve clients in a professional, welcoming, and efficient manner.

9.Strong organizational ability; attention to detail and accuracy, and demonstrated ability to learn technical and legal information.

10. Valid California driver’s license and legally required insurance preferred.

11.Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the program or department, and throughout the agency.

Physical Requirements

1.Requires ability to sit up to 3-7 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing.

2.Requires ability to keyboard at computer for up to 6 hours per day.

3.Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height up to 6 feet and 11-25 pounds to a height of 3 feet.

4..Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 25 pounds for distances up to 25 feet.
