Scope of Job:

  • Reporting into the Senior Play Supervisor and Deputy Supervisor. Also, working alongside other permanent play assistants.
  • A primary function of the role is to help create a pleasant visitor experience and contribute to the day-to-day operational running of Hullabazoo. As well as ensuring the health and safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope of the post. Flexible attitude to working with regular weekend and bank holiday working. Working requirements to be based on the needs of the business and a work/life balance.

Key Objectives:

  • Ensuring that visitors of Hullabazoo are safe and secure at all times as well as achieving visitor satisfaction through good customer service.
  • Working with other departments around the zoo to ensure Hullabazoo is providing equivalent high standards to all visitors.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Health and Safety for both the indoor and outdoor Hullabazoo play areas along with other Play Assistants. Following the Health and Safety procedures already in place within Hullabazoo.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer service, attending to visitors needs as they arise and ensuring exemplary customer service at all times.
  • Maintaining a high level of presentation standards with the cleanliness of Hullabazoo.
  • As well as Indoor Play facilities, Hullabazoo has catering facilities including seating and servery plus the introduction of Private Hire, first aid post, face painting and retail products sold via the facility reception post. The Play Assistants should work with the Senior Play Supervisor, Deputy Supervisor and the Hullabazoo team to ensure excellent customer service and impression of the facility and be aware of areas for improvement.

Main Responsibilities:

1.Operations

  • Ensure the Hullabazoo play areas are safe and that all equipment is fully fit for purpose.
  • Ensure that Hullabazoo is safe for all visitors by up keeping general housekeeping.
  • Ensuring the monitoring of all issues and raising them to the Senior Play Supervisor.
  • Ensures all signage used within the Hullabazoo areas is well maintained and that crucial safety messages are easily accessible for our guests.

2.Development

  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with regular visitors to Hullabazoo, including members, looking for ways to actively promote Hullabazoo and raise its profile.
  • Participating in meetings or conferences as part of the team or otherwise, as appropriate.
  • Work with piers to ensure products and produce sold by the other commercial teams and live up to standards of good price and quality.

3.Financial

  • Carries out own work requirements in an organised and efficient manner.
  • Increasing sales within Hullabazoo by increasing knowledge on the stock that we offer, at what price and what is offered elsewhere around the Zoo to ultimately increase all ZSL sales.
  • Takes care in the security and accurate accounting of stock and produce levels through measured stock handling procedures and checking in deliveries. Also, Participating in the stock take process.
  • Ensures that all deliveries from suppliers, including parts or equipment, are thoroughly checked prior to acceptance.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Hullabazoo equipment is maintained to prevent unnecessary cost, with the support of the senior supervisor, Deputy Supervisor and outside agencies.

4.People

  • Leads by example with a fair and transparent approach to the team, in a busy and friendly environment.
  • Supports the overall running of the Hullabazoo play areas with the Senior Play Supervisor, Deputy Supervisor and other Play Assistants.
  • Communicating any objectives set by the Senior Play Supervisor and ensuring these are met.
  • Actively promotes the commercial departments Vision and values, presenting a professional image at all times with the other Play Assistants.
  • Ensures the customer service standard is maintained, dealing with day-to-day issues and decisions.
  • Suggest ways to improve the operational running of the department.
  • Be approachable, welcoming and friendly to all guests and team members at all times.
  • To be contribute towards, and assist the Senior Play Supervisor and Deputy Supervisor to ensure the efficient management and running of the play facility at all times and the reception area where visitors are welcomed and checked in.
  • Sometimes it may be necessary to limit the amount of visitors in the play centre and therefore, with management from the Senior Play Supervisor or Deputy Supervisor the Play Assistants, should manage this system of limiting play usage with the use of timed sessions and ensure excellent visitor communication and customer service at all times.

5. Health & Safety

  • Takes an active role in ensuring the Hullabazoo Indoor and Outdoor play equipment is safe with daily checks and sign off.
  • Maintain high hygiene standards on all equipment and contact surfaces.
  • Following Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed by all the Hullabazoo team.
  • Ensure unsafe acts or conditions are reported at once to the Senior Play Supervisor.

Person Specification

  • NVQ Level 1 qualification in child care or Playwork or appropriate experience.
  • A good understanding of child protection and health and safety issues surrounding childcare.
  • Good interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively both written and oral with children, parents and staff.
  • Ideally have an interest in face painting.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment with a helpful and flexible attitude.
  • Able to demonstrate great customer service skills.

  • Prior experience handling cash and processing card payments.
  • Pediatric First-Aid Qualification or Trained (is Desirable).
