Our 2012PARP Program will beginFriday, February 10th and ends on Friday, March 2nd. Our theme this year is “The 4 R’s—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, READ!” and a calendar of events is attached for your information.

For families new to Fishkill Elementary, the PARP program is designed to promote the love of reading by asking parents and other family membersat home to set aside at least fifteen minutes a day to read with their children. The New York State PTA has sponsored this program since 1987.

Our program willkick off with a special assembly. Over the next three weeks, our students will participate in manyfun activities in school and at home to encourage their passion for reading, such as: 1) parents sending a note in your child’s snack for a collage 2) Website Wednesdays—read and learn together 3) PARP-corn night and 4) a book swap!

We would like to have 100% participation in our PARP Program this year! To help make this fun and encourage your participation, we havetwo contests– the Principal’s Challengeand the Limo Ride. The class with the most participation will be awarded 1st Place by Dr. McNally. The 1st Place winners will celebrate with a class party and participate in the Principal’s Challenge -- a chance to have a little fun with Dr. McNally! Second and Third Place classes will receive an ice cream party. Students who read and return their tallies for all 3 weeks will be entered into a drawing for the Grand Prize-- a Limo Ride and mini shopping spree at Barnes and Noble.

Use the attached tally slips to record the number of minutes read with your children each day during the program. Please return these slips to class on the due dates noted. The top classes will be announced on Friday, March 2nd, so please return your tally sheets on time.

Our program will end with anIce Cream Socialand Book Swap at Fishkill Elementary on the evening of Friday, March 9th. (The snow date is Friday, March 16th.) Tickets must be purchasedfor the social only. More information will be sent home shortly.

We hope you and your children will enjoy the activities we have

planned and that you will share some good times with good books!

We truly appreciate your participation.
