JOB TITLE:Head of High Value Fundraising

  1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Delivery and implementation of fundraising strategy.

Achievement of all income and expenditure budgets and related KPIs for relevant High Value teams.

Lead, manage and develop the High Value Fundraising teams.

Deliver an outstanding supporter experience to all high value donors.

  1. POSITION IN ORGANISATION

Reports to Executive Director of Fundraising

Works closely with Head of Individual Giving Fundraising,Head of Fundraising Development, Heads of Communications and across key functions within Samaritans.

Manages 3direct reports & 8 indirect reports

  1. SCOPE OF JOB

Team Strategy - Assists in the development and execution of the strategy to ensure short and long term income targets are achieved and risks are minimised.

Team Management - Overall responsibility for managing the team and raising annually agreed income target

Department Strategy - Works with Executive Director of Fundraising and other HOTs in Fundraising to set the strategy for the Dept.

Event & Campaign Management

  1. DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

Works with the Director of Fundraising and alongside line reports to set team’sincome and expenditure budget (agreed annually) making sure this is monitored and accurately reforecasted as necessary. Income c. £3.8m and expenditure c.£1m

  1. QUALIFICATIONS

Degree or equivalent essential

  1. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrable track record of securing strategic high value partnerships or relationships.

Significant experience of managing relationships with senior donors (trusts, corporate or major donors)

Experience of developing and implementing partnership development strategies including donor stewardship.

Proven experience of developing fundraising strategies and plans

Experience of leading, managing and motivating others and driving change including 1:1’s, appraisals and recruitment.

Ability to network with, and influence, senior people both internally and externally

Experience of managing budgets and providing accurate financial reports

Confidence and ability to present Samaritan’s work to senior funders

Ability to recognise and develop new partnership and fundraising opportunities

Part 2: DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Management

Ensures that the High Value team is effective and efficient, and that staff maximize their contribution to the team ensuring that the budget is achieved.

Leads on and maintains effective relationship management of key supporters, in conjunction with appropriate staff, develops sustainable relationships with key contacts and play an essential role in gaining their long term support for Samaritans

Working with the other Heads of Fundraising, ensure that donors experience a seamless supporter journey across the different income streams and that staff work without silos to maximise fundraising potential

Encourages imaginative, creative fundraising approaches and events ensuring the Team explores new areas of fundraising in order to maximise support to Samaritans

Responsible for ensuring that communication from the team is consistent, of a high standard and targeted appropriately to each recipient

Carries out the relevant personnel functions for the team including one to one update meetings, recruitment, annual appraisals and, where necessary, performance management and disciplining staff.

Ensures that the team works collaboratively with other teams, departments and volunteers to achieve a marketing approach which is integrated

Ensures that the fundraising activities within the Team comply with current law and any ethical policies that Samaritans have.

Team Strategy

Plans and prepares annual budgets, monitors and reports performance against budget on a monthly basis producing forecasts when required and taking remedial action when necessary to ensure the achievement of net income budget

Ensures effective use of the fundraising database and supports the team in maximizing use of the system to establish more effective practices and strategies

Assists in the formulation of strategy and executes the strategic plan for High Value fundraising by identifying key areas, drives business development, networks and develops contacts and commercial opportunity.

Works with line reports to develop yearly operational plans that maximise these opportunities across all mechanisms

Plays an active role in developing, preparing and delivering key proposals and presentations to the potential highest value supporters and researching and developing new areas

Identifies and develops, and encourages the Team to identify and develop, strategic partnerships that will generate multi-year, predictable income for Samaritans.

Event Management

Ensures the successful execution of a small number of events for cultivation and fundraising purposes.

Manages other projects and partnerships as required.

Departmental Strategy

Works with Executive Director of Fundraising and other Fundraising Heads of Team to devise, implement and monitor fundraising strategy to achieve financial and operational targets.

Administration

Ensures that central team filing/administration systems including database are maintained.

Supports the management and development of Samaritans’ overall work by working in liaison with other teams and volunteers

General

Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the Samaritans Central Charity as appropriate.

Participate, as appropriate, in staff forums and meetings

Adhere to Samaritans’ Policies and Procedures.

Represent the General Office appropriately across the movement and Samaritans to the wider community as appropriate
