Job Title:Graduate HR Officer

Report to:Head of HR

Location:HR Department.

Salary:St Basils Scale 5, Point 22 – 25, £19,370 - £21,244 per annum, pro rata

Hours:Full time, 37.5 hours per week. Monday – Friday. 9am – 5pm.

Contract:Fixed Term Contract: 12 Months

Job Purpose

St Basils works with young people aged 16-25, across the West Midlands region, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping over 5000 young people per year. Every year over 1200 young people are housed in our 29 supported accommodation schemes, which for some young people includes their young children as well. We have a range of prevention, accommodation and support services to help them successfully break the ‘cycle of homelessness’ so that they can go on to experience a bright, fulfilling future and never return to a state where they are at risk of homelessness again.

We are looking for a top-class graduate who is enthusiastic, inquisitive and a strong team player to join our team based in Digbeth, Birmingham. Our aim is always to provide a first-class service in various HR specialisms including Employment, Recruitment and Placements, Learning and Development, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Employee Relations and Benefits and Compensation.

The successful candidate will provide an operational level of support to the Head of HR while working closely with other members of the team to learn the role and provide expert professional support to both managers and staff.

Key Duties

Recruitment & Selection

  • Responsible for all recruitment administration, including producing job descriptions, person

specifications, adverts and recruitment panels, DBS checks, reference requests and other associated duties.

  • Attend recruitment interviews and provide full HR support.
  • Monitor and maintain up to date information of new starters, leavers, Fixed Term Contract Workers and Cover Workers.
  • Responsible for the co-ordination and facilitation of theinduction process.
  • Maintain staff files for existing and new staff.

Employee Relations

  • To work closely with Managers providing guidance and support on a full range of HR activities including policies and procedures, terms and conditions of employment, absence management, restructuring of services, performance management and all other associated duties.
  • Ensure a consistent and fair approach to the management of employees across the organisation ensuring compliancewith current legislation and policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the management of investigations, disciplinary and grievance matters.
  • Keep up to date with all legal developments, assisting in the update of all policies and procedures where required from the Head of HR.
  • Provide support to staff on HR issues as and when required.
  • Maintain an effective partnership with the Employee Council ensuring consultation and communication practices are adopted.
  • Ensure staff are informed and updated on key business and organisational issues.
  • Work with the HR team in undertaking exit interviews and to review, coordinate, conduct and evaluate exit interview information.

Sickness & Absence

  • Maintain and review sickness and absence processes and procedures ensuring stages set out in the policy are adhered to in a fair and consistent manner.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and review of absence schemes including Maternity, Paternity, Annual, Compassionate and any other leave.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly absence statistics for HR reporting to the Senior Management team.
  • Provide guidance and support on sickness absence management across the organisation, working with managers to lower overall staff sickness absence.

General

  • Carry out HR administration including the provision of statistical information, sending out relevant contractual information, chasing queries and all other associated duties.
  • To maintain a database for all employees, volunteers, cover workers and placements working within the organisation.
  • Carry out administrative duties supporting all HR processes and terms and conditions of employment.
  • To ensure staff welfare services are offered and accessible to the workforce as appropriate.
  • To attend internal and external meetings in order to represent St Basils, the HR Department or the Head of HR.
  • Promote good practice in equal opportunities and diversity in all aspects of the post holders work.

  • To undertake any duties deemed necessary by the Head of HR, in order to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the organisation as a whole.
