JOB TITLE:Good Relations Trainer Mediator (30 hrs pw)

PROJECT NAME: Extern Positive Learning Project

RESPONSIBLE TO: TIDES Training Director

CONTRACT PERIOD: up to March 2021

SALARY:£25,000 per annum pro rata

HOLIDAYS:4 weeks plus 10 statutory holidays (pro rata)

LOCATION: Extern, Springtown Industrial Site, Derry/Londonderry

JOB SUMMARY

The Trainer/Mediator(s) will work as part of a partnership team to deliver thePositive Learning Project on behalf of TIDES Training and Extern.

The Extern Positive Learning programme supports adults who often find themselves on the margins of society including people who are disadvantaged, homeless, have an offending history, are long-term unemployed or who are refugees. It aims to improve good relations and enable participants to reintegrate into society.

This project has been supported by the EU’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide Good Relations focused, accredited training programme to service users from Extern Positive Learning Projectalongside Extern’s Good Relations Officers and support the wider team to identify potential community projects with local community groups and organisations.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • To plan, agree and deliver good relations focused training to meet the needs of referred service users.
  • To deliver an OCN Award in Diversity and Good Relations (or equivalent) training to 220 participants
  • To provide mentoring support to Extern Good Relations team
  • To attend meetings as requested.

Resources

  • Plan and manage own workload effectively, using initiative and prioritising effectively.
  • Work with line management to develop and deliver good relations focused support and accreditation.
  • To develop awareness of progression routes for trainees within the community training sectors and liaise when appropriate with relevant providers.
  • Ensure service user access and use of any project equipment is managed effectively and appropriately.

Communication (Internal & External)

  • Communicate regularly with Colleagues and any other professionals involved in the service users training programme.
  • Seek feedback from service users on service provided and deal with informal complaints in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Liaise with Colleagues to identify gaps in the training provision and provide feedback to management.
  • Liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders including PBNI, NIPS, Hostel staff and Irish probation board.
  • To assist with external events as required that support achievement of project targets and where appropriate represent the project to a wide range of audiences including open days.

Health and Safety

  • Advise the Project Manager of any concerns in relation to health and wellbeing of trainees.

Reporting

  • Prepare and submit reports and feedback for management and stakeholders as agreed with the Project Manager.
  • Monitor and evaluate outcomes and impacts of the Good relations focused training.

Training

  • Continue to develop and improve own performance through attendance at relevant training courses and team meetings.
  • Keeping abreast of current legislation and Extern’s policies and procedures, and attend appropriate training as and when required.
  • Participate in the identification of own training needs and demonstrate a willingness to learn, apply new skills and meet new challenges.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to evaluating and improving own work performance

Ensure work is carried out in accordance with reasonable instructions, to a high standard and in agreed timescales.

To ensure all internal standards within TIDES are met with regards to:

All staff will be given training on all of the above during their induction period.

To carry out any other duties falling reasonably within the competence and capability of the post holder.

Job Specification: Good Relations Trainer Mediator

Attributes / Essential / Desirable / Tested
Education and Training / A Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline e.g. social science; community development; community relations; TIDES training of Trainers programme AND 2 years’ experience working in community relations.
OR
Applicants with 5 years paid experience but do not hold a Degree / A Professional Qualification in social care / Application
Experience / Knowledge of the needs of disadvantaged adults in the working age range regarding work and learning.
At least 3 years professional Community Relations and Conflict Management training experience in an innovative and challenging way
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in directly delivering accredited training in the good relations themes.
Experience of monitoring & managing budgets in accordance with policies, procedures/ external funding requirements. / Experience of working in the Criminal Justice sector and or voluntary sector.
Experience of bringing diverse groups together for events and training programmes.
Relevant experience of mediating with hard to reach groups. / Interview
