Purpose
Working within a highly focused small team, the Freelance Communications Officer will provide editorial, creative and operational support across our charity’s work. He or she will support The Nelson Trust, a Gloucestershire based charity, supporting individuals into recovery from addiction and other multiple challenges. You will communicate, promote and market The Nelson Trust’s events calendar over the coming months and manage the social media and web content for theTrust.
Key objectives
- To work with the Events and Corporate Coordinator to promote sales to The Nelson Trust’s Event programme 2018.
- To support staff to celebrate their success through all marketing and communication channels.
- Supporting the Fundraising and Business Development team with proofing, drafting, editing and distributing materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- To prepare communications and populate social media platforms.
- To interact with press and media and coordinate communications externally.
This post is fixed term with the potential for review to continuous FTE employment.
Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
A successful record of accomplishment in the following areas is essential:
- Proven ability to implement a successful organisation communications plan
- Experience with online and social media platforms, including technical ability and knowledge of Hootsuit, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
- Formal education and/or experience of working in a similar role
- Use of online and social media in successful fundraising campaigns
The following experience is desirable but not essential:
- Working in a not-for-profit organisation
- Effective team working
Skills and capabilities
- Excellent IT skills including use of Word, Excel and Database Packages (e.g.Donor Strategy, Hootsuit, Google analytics)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
