JOB TITLE:FreecallCommunications Officer

  1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
  • Deliver the agreed SamaritansFreecall communications plan.
  • Deliver the Freecall awareness campaign within the 10 pilot areas.
  • Build effective communications channels and relationships with key stakeholders, including the branches in the pilot area.
  • Deliverthe change management plan to maximise volunteer acceptance and engagement with the project- particularly the e-logging part of the project.
  • Support all key stakeholders on a one-to-one basis with communication needs where necessary for the Freecall project.
  1. POSITION IN ORGANISATION
  • Reports into: Head of Communications
  • Woks with:FreecallProgramme Manager, steering group, project team, product leads, Regional Directors, Branch Directors and all GO staff to ensure consistency of messaging.
  • Liaises with: all General Office departments and Samaritans Volunteers.

  • Deliveringthe communication strategy and plan for the Freecall project.
  • Deliver a targeted marketing campaign to advertise the Freecall number.
  • General duties of a Samaritans staff member.
  1. DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
  • Provides advice and expertise for all communication related matters for the Freecall project.
  • Supports the Freecall project team and steering group, as well as other key stakeholders,with all communication where appropriate.
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate, ideally in communications discipline.
  1. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Some experience of delivering a communicationstrategy and plan.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within an organisation including working with Directors and CEO, to build and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Understanding the role communications plays in a large, volunteer-led federated organisation.
  • Experience of delivering campaigns.
  • Good understanding of marketing communications and PR.
  • Ability to set strategic goals and manage appropriate activity to achieve them.

PART 2: DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication

  • Working with Head of Communicationsand Programme Managerto deliverthe day-to-daycommunications plan for the Freecall project.
  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of the advertising campaign in the 10 pilot areas.
  • Make surethat all communication activitiescontribute effectively to the strategic goals of the Freecall project.
  • Effectively engage volunteers through appropriate communication and activities to rapidly, completely and proficiently make the necessary changes for a successful implementation of the project.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with the creative agency.
  • Establishes and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders including all volunteer groups and the Big Lottery Fund.

General duties of a Samaritans’ staff member

  • Contribute to the effective and efficient running of General Office as appropriate.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in staff forums and meetings.
  • Adhere to all Samaritans’ Polices and Procedures.
  • Represent the General Office appropriately across the movement and Samaritans to the wider community as appropriate.
  • Treat all colleagues, volunteers and members of the public with dignity and work within and adhere to Samaritans’ equal opportunities statement and polices.
