Job Title: Financial Aid Specialist / Support Services

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Financial Aid Specialist assists the Director, Financial Aid in the day to day clerical and administrative activities. This position provides general and detailed information about financial aid opportunities to students and completes and certifies financial aid forms for various grants, loans and the work-study program. This position performs intake interviews and counsels students as to the types of financial aid programs available to them at Florida Keys Community College. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director, Financial Aid.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Provides financial aid information to students concerning the types of financial aid programs available and the application process for each.
  2. Reviews incoming forms from students for completeness and accuracy. Assists the Director in performing verifications as provided.
  3. Answers inquiries from lenders and processes loan applications including certifying enrollment and satisfactory academic progress status. Answers application inquiries from lenders.
  4. Maintains lists of available Federal Work Study positions and assists students in matching their skills and experience with job qualifications. Refers students to appropriate department supervisors. Works with various Work Study supervisors in assessing their needs. Explains the procedure for schedules and time sheets.
  5. Monitors individual student Work Study earnings and maintains Federal Work Study account balance.
  6. Assists the Director in supervising and assigning duties to the Financial Aid Office’s Work Study student.
  7. Performs entrance and exit loan interviews and assists students to do interviews online.
  8. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves financial aid applications, awards and general student information from the various departments and the college computer system.
  9. Serves as office receptionist and answers general inquiries from prospective and current students, faculty, staff and visitors.
  10. Builds, oversees and maintains the yearly Financial Aid student files. Updates and tracks standards of progress reports. Responsible for maintaining complete and accurate files which undergo an annual State of Florida audit.
  11. Assist and direct students with Federal and State Financial guidelines, changes, policies, and application for Board of Trustees and Academic Excellence.
  12. Assists the Director in compiling the annual list of FKCC scholarship recipients. Work with Rave, vocational rehab, and Safeport.
  13. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

•Graduation froman accredited two-year college or university with Associate’s Degree in related field.

•Two (2) years office experience preferably in a financial aid office.

•Knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation, in order to prepare documents, letters and information releases.

•Knowledge of Federal, State and institutional financial aid programs, guidelines and regulations.

•Knowledge of IRS tax forms as related to the federal verification process.

•Knowledge of office practices and procedures.

•Ability to use various Financial Aid computer programs - EDExpress, Banner, Microsoft Works.

•Ability to operate a PC, keyboard, computer or mouse.

•Ability to input and access data from a computer.

•Ability to assess students’ qualifications and experience for placement in Federal Work Study.

•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

•Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

•Ability to complete a variety of tasks simultaneously under time constraints and stressful situations.

•Ability to be detail-oriented and organized.

SALARY:$12.87 minimum based on education & experience
