Job title: Finance Analyst (Fitness to Practise)

Reporting to: Senior Finance Business Partner (Fitness to Practise)

Salary band: D2

Role purpose

To provide, under the guidance of the Senior Finance Business Partner, financial analysis and advice as required to colleagues at all levels including senior management in Fitness to Practise and across the wider NMC. To provide a partnering and management accounting service to budget holders and senior management in the Fitness to Practise directorate.

Key accountabilities

Financial analysis

·  To produce accurate and thorough financial analysis and present in a meaningful and focused way to enable decision makers within the NMC to make fully informed and financially sound decisions.

·  To support the costing, consolidation and interdependency mapping of the annual Business Plan with budget managers and project managers in Fitness to Practise to assist with ensuring that a coherent budget is produced which aligns with the Business Plan.

·  To conduct full costing of all activities aligned to income and expenditure streams.

·  To take a lead on producing financial modelling and financial insight, feeding in to the development of the Fitness to Practise Directorate’s long term financial and fee strategy.

·  To assist the Senior Finance Business Partner by contributing to financial analysis expertise and commercial acumen to deliver robust business evaluation and monitoring of Fitness to Practise strategic priorities..

Monthly management accounts

·  To support the monthly management accounts production for the Fitness to Practise Directorate, including expenses, unit costs and other performance measures, ensuring they accurately reflect the financial position of the NMC at that time.

·  Produce, review and distribute monthly management accounts reports for the Fitness to Practise Directorate to ensure budget holders are able to make informed decisions with the budget available to them.

·  To meet Fitness to Practise Directorate budget holders on a regular basis to review actual to budget and forecast management results, gain insight and to identify and rectify variances.

·  To draft and prepare analytical commentary on the monthly reports for the Fitness to Practise Directorate.

·  To prepare and post monthly accruals, adjustments, prepayments, and other journals.

Planning budgeting and forecasting

·  To support the annual budgeting process during the budgeting cycle, setting appropriate timetables and ensuring all activities are completed by budget holders and management in the Fitness to Practise Directorate to deliver the annual budget to the required standard.

·  To assist the Senior Finance Business Partner in leading and planning the forecasting process through developing the Directorate forecasting timetable, guidance, business challenge and financial modelling.

·  To support the education of, and deliver training to, budget holders including Assistant Directors and Heads of Department, in the compilation and management of their annual budgets, project budgets, monthly forecasts, and inputs to financial models.

·  To support the provision of information and guidance to Directors, Assistant Directors and budget holders on financial matters and support and review the preparation and presentation of their business cases, plans and committee papers.

Financial systems

·  To exploit the use of financial systems (e.g. eBis, Openaccounts) to maximise efficiency and the production of information.

·  To assist in updating and maintaining cost code hierarchies for the Fitness to Practise Directorate to ensure the cost code hierarchy reflects the Directorate’s requirements.

Statutory accounts

·  To ensure that the final management results for the financial year reflect the statutory results and that appropriate audit trails are kept

·  To liaise with internal and external auditors on issues and queries relating to the management accounts

Qualifications and experience

·  Part Qualified ACA/ACCA/ACMA or similar professional accounting qualification

·  Demonstrable experience of running and delivering management accounting processes

·  Advanced knowledge of Excel, including modelling and reporting

·  Competent in using Word and PowerPoint packages

·  Experience of working with staff at all levels in an organisation, including senior management

·  Ability to plan, prioritise and work to tight deadlines

·  Excellent level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail

·  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop a rapport with budget holders and colleagues at all levels
