Job Purpose:

As a senior member of the professional support team, you will coordinate and contribute to the provision of professional expertise and act as the main point of contact for designated areas of activity within Faculty Academic Support. You will manage a small team and lead activities fora set of programmes/partners. Work varies according to the academic cycle – example activities include assessment management, the provision of regulatory advice, examination board support, management of programme handbooks and induction planning. A key part of the role is the development of expert knowledge of University and PSRB programme regulations that apply, along with the development of effective working relationships with key academic staff. You will work as part of a wider Faculty Academic Support Team and some rotation of roles within the Team is expected as is collaborative work with other parts of the Academic Registry.

Generic Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance and advice to academic staff and partners on the application of University procedures for a designated portfolio of programmes. Areas of work will vary to reflect University priorities but may include one or more of the following non-exhaustive list:
  • assessment brief approval,
  • support for assessment boards, from marks receipt to the release of results
  • co-ordination of start of year activities including programme handbooks and induction programmes, the set-up of tutor records, enrolment
  • support for student staff programme committees and the facilitation of good practice in the programme
  • co-ordination of assessment monitoring plans
  • support for partner organisations in the application of University regulations and procedures.
  • Manage database and other records in support of these activities.
  • Manage a smallteam to support proactive, professional and customer focussed activity in these areas.
  • Be responsible for liaison and communication with colleagues in faculties and other services in relation to these areas.
  • Ensure Northumbria protocols for Academic Support are consistently applied to comply with relevant internal and external standards.
  • Act as secretary to assessment board and programme management committees and other sub-committees and project/task groups as required; proactively progress and monitor actions and priorities arising.
  • Work with Faculty Academic Support colleagues and contribute to the wider activity of the Team as required.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge and understanding of University and PSRB regulations and provide advice to colleagues in Faculties and other services on their application.
  • Provide expert guidance and advice to faculty, service and other stakeholders on the operation of Academic Supportregulations, protocols and activities, and lead related briefing and development sessions to these groups.
  • Support the Faculty Academic Support Manager and the Academic Registry senior team in maintaining and developing administrative systems, practice and procedures to ensure high quality delivery of all taught programmes.
