Aims:
  • To improve and develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in gymnastics, dance and games
  • To improve and develop staff confidence and competence in teaching gymnastics, dance and games
  • To increase the children’s access to quality PE & games outside the teaching day

Action / Time scale / Desired Impact / Evaluation
  1. Audit current provision and staff strengths and areas for development
/ July 2014 / A clear understanding of staff strengths and areas for further development which can then, in conjunction with the sports partnership, can be used to plan half termly ‘expert’ lessons / Audit showed that staff in Y1,2,5 & 6 would benefit from additional professional development in PE.
  1. In conjunction with the Pennine Sports Partnership appoint appropriate staff to teach a series of lessons on a particular area of PE for staff to observe and teach together
/ Sept 2014-July 2015 / Teaching staff at Upperthong have an improved understanding of how to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding through a series of PE lessons.
Teaching staff to have greater confidence when teaching dance, gymnastics and games.
Children at Upperthong have improved knowledge, skills and understanding in particular areas of PE. / Sports Premium coaches have taught high quality lessons for teaching staff to observe. Progressive lessons have been planned and led in gymnastics, games and dance, with Outdoor and adventurous activities planned in the summer term. This has benefited the children as they have received high quality teaching. Staff have also benefited, as they have gained ideas and confidence through the observations.
  1. In conjunction with the Pennine Partnership appoint a play worker to work 3 lunchtimes each week
/ Sept 2014-15 / Children at Upperthong have access to an increased level of organised sporting activity at lunchtime.
Children to have the opportunity to take part in fun activities at lunch time. While also developing skills. / Project sport coaches have worked with a variety of year groups 3 days per week. Children have had enjoyed a variety of sports and activities that they wouldn’t normally have access to.
  1. In conjunction with the appointed sports staff plan extra curricular sport activities and develop programmes of study
/ Sept 2014- July 2015 / Children at Upperthong have access to an increased level of organised sporting activity through participation in extra curricular activity
School will have an up-to-date programme of study for gymnastics to follow in the future / Children have had access to extra curricular clubs. A dance club has been targeted at Year 3 and a Health & Fitness club for Year 4. We have also had a Fencing Club for KS2, and 2 taster sessions from local Martial Arts experts for KS1 and UKS2. Finally, Upperthong Cricket Club have been in and done work with LKS2.
