BACKGROUND
DM Thomas Foundation for Young People (DMTFYP) is an independent registered charity that supports projects assisting disadvantaged young people across Europe. Established in 2000, the Foundation is the partner for charitable giving and fundraising for our corporate partners Hilton Europe, Galvin Restaurants and Les Mills UK.
With a grant fund of over £1 million per annum our challenge is to continue to put on high profiled events that will raise funds, maintain excellent donor relations with existing corporate and individual supporters while growing the donor base, whilst ensuring the best standards of grant-making to small charities.
JOB SUMMARY
Working alongside a small experienced team and based in London, this role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the Foundation’s mission. With particular responsibility for developing, delivering and promoting the charity’s fundraising events and campaigns primarily across the UK and some parts of Europe with our corporate partners, this role requires strong project management, communications skills and management and development of supporter relationships.
This role will therefore: promote good practice in fundraising; provide guidance, leadership and support to local and regional fundraising events and campaigns; expand the existing events and campaigns portfolio; and deliver annual fundraising targets.
THE ROLE WILL:
- Develop and implement a fundraising event strategic plan for the next five years.
- Build on existing events and develop new event mechanisms, campaigns and fundraising drives to raise £1.5 million (net) a year by 2018/19.
- Meet agreed income targets and KPI's to develop income and engagement.
- Encourage, provide guidance and support those undertaking fundraising activities and giving.
- Assist the Director in developing a series of strategic fundraising events and campaigns with our corporate partners.
- Establish, guide and participate on event committees.
- Manage the work of the Events & Fundraising Campaigns Executive, to deliver and support events and fundraising campaigns as well as maintain supporter relations which will include:
- Coordination of Event Committees
- Event Management and administration of large fundraising events
- Liaising with supporter regarding fundraising activities
- Providing a monthly fundraising report.
- Deliver our new pan-European campaign ‘Foundation Summer Fete’ event, to hotels and our flagship event in London June 2018.
- Tell the story of what the Foundation has achieved and what it plans to achieve, using charity partners, to celebrate support and encourage further support.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies around the planned fundraising activities and campaigns for key supporters, ensuring brand standard and building long-term donor support.
- Develop key materials needed to promote and deliver events, campaigns and fundraising activities.
- Dissemination of best practice and adherence to charity standards of excellence, charity and fiscal laws.
DUTIES
- Developing and maintaining business partnerships (including Hilton, Eastman, Galvin Restaurants, and Les Mills).
- Coordination of Event Committees.
- Event Management and administration of large fundraising events.
- Lead on merchandise sales (Ducks for Change and Charity Vouchers) including finding new outlets, developing ways to promote the merchandise, producing new merchandise as well as managing stock and sales for DMTFYP Trading Ltd.
- Via the Events and Fundraising Assistant ensure prompt and accurate banking and acknowledgement of funds raised, in consultation with the Finance Executive.
- Providing monthly financial updates and progress reports.
- Regularly update and coordinate team support to update the Foundation’s web presence and social media to celebrate and encourage support.
- Lead on developing and delivering fundraising campaign.
- Sit on working committees.
General
- Identify, train and manage volunteers to help ensure key deliverables are met.
- Support to the Director as required.
- Provide administrative assistance to other members of the Foundation team during their absence or at times of peak activity (ad hoc).
- Support, encourage and manage fundraisers and committee members.
- Responsible for incoming and outgoing post and telephone on a rota.
PERSON PROFILE

ESSENTIAL
- At least four years charity event management or fundraising skills
- Proven track record of delivering fundraising targets and KPIs.
- Proven relationship management skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- A self-starter and team-player with a positive and approachable attitude
- Clear and professional communication skills in English – oral and written
- Motivational presenter
- Ability to liaise effectively at all levels
- Fully computer literate including proven ability using Word and Excel
- Proficient at accurate data-inputting and database management
- Excellent time manager with ability to juggle and deliver multiple tasks under pressure
- Experience of working to deadlines whilst multitasking in a small team and a complex environment
- Hands- on and can-do attitude.
DESIRABLE:
- Experience of delivering PR and Media
- Desktop publishing or web experience (preferably Wordpress)
- Design suites experience i.e. InDesign, Illustrator and/or Photoshop.
This is a busy and demanding role, for which the incumbent will be responsible for managing their time effectively in order to undertake the tasks assigned and manage ongoing duties. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility and willingness to work outside normal office hours as well as volunteer at events may be required.
Occasional travel will be required for key events or meetings, including overseas, therefore a valid passport and necessary visas will need to be in place, however it is anticipated that the majority of time will be spent in the London office.
