Summary: The ESL Curriculum Coordinator will collect, assess, and analyze individual student information in order to assess English language skills for placement in the ESL Program. The ESL CurriculumCoordinator will plan appropriate education programs for students with limited English language proficiency.

Qualifications:Louisiana Teaching Certificate with endorsement of English as a Second Language, Master’s Degree and five years of professional experience teaching English as a Second Language. Bilingualism preferred.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: The ESL Curriculum Coordinatorshall be employed under the following terms: salary, benefits, leave time and conditions are approved by the Lafayette Parish School Board; conditions established by all laws and codes of the State, and all policies, rules and regulations established by the Louisiana State Board of Education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assess students to determine the level of English language proficiency to determine placement in the appropriate academic program.
  • Assists in enrolling students in ESL programs.
  • Provides assistance and orientation in the programs and procedures of Lafayette Parish School System for parents of ESL students.
  • Assists teachers and other school personnel in the design and implementation of ESL educational services.
  • Confers with parents and other school personnel on matters relating to the assessment of students and preparation of teaching-learning strategies for students.
  • Assists with in-service training of school personnel on topics related to working with ESL students.
  • Participates actively in the school improvement process.
  • Works effectively with school personnel, parents/guardians, and the community.
  • Participates in staff development and continued training in the field of ESL.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
