Aim
Deliver a range of employability skills training sessions to homeless and vulnerably housed people in order to support their journey into employment
Circumstances
- 21 hours a week, worked over three consecutive days
- This is a temporary post for four months
- Some evening and weekend work may be required and time off in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy
- Based in the Old Town with services delivered in partners’ facilities across Edinburgh
- For those who do not have a PVG membership certificate dated within the past year a satisfactory Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland is required for this role
Salary
£14,482 per annum (£24,137 FTE) – £26,714 FTE as of 01 July 2016

Principle accountabilities
Teaching
- Teach and support learning in accordance with best practice for the client group
- Prepare and use good quality learning materials
- Prepare learning documentation in accordance with standard Crisis practice
- Establish and maintain standards of conduct with and for the learners
- Adhere to departmental policies when dealing with aggressive or challenging behaviour
- Ensure all learning activity aids the progression of individuals
Contribution to the team and organisation
- Develop and share teaching and learning materials with the team.
- Work within the organisation’s policies and procedures including Equal Opportunities
- Support volunteers as required within the classes
- Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are identified and reported in line with Crisis’ procedures
General
- Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis
- Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
- Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job
Person Specification
Essential
- The applicant must hold, be working towards a practical teaching qualification (i.e. TQFE, Certificate in Adult and Community Learning, PGDE), or have demonstrable experience in delivering employabiltiy programmes
- Experience of designing and delivering employability training to clients with a wide range of employability needs
- Proven experience of engaging vulnerable, disengaged or hard to reach adults in relevant educational, employment and training programmes
- Proven organizational skills including an ability to prioritize, be self-motivated and have good time-management skills
- Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups using a variety of media
- Ability to work with minimal support with challenging behaviour and clients with complex needs
- A passion for innovative learning, creativity and encouraging individuals’ competency in employability skills
- A capacity both to work on your own, in teams and a willingness to reflect upon and develop own practice
- Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team to help achieve clients’ employability goals
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with safeguarding procedures
- Commitment to Crisis’ purpose and values including equality and social inclusion
Desirable
- Experience of working with clients whose first languages are not English
