Aim

Deliver a range of employability skills training sessions to homeless and vulnerably housed people in order to support their journey into employment

Circumstances

  • 21 hours a week, worked over three consecutive days
  • This is a temporary post for four months
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required and time off in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy
  • Based in the Old Town with services delivered in partners’ facilities across Edinburgh
  • For those who do not have a PVG membership certificate dated within the past year a satisfactory Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland is required for this role

Salary

£14,482 per annum (£24,137 FTE) – £26,714 FTE as of 01 July 2016

Principle accountabilities

Teaching

  • Teach and support learning in accordance with best practice for the client group
  • Prepare and use good quality learning materials
  • Prepare learning documentation in accordance with standard Crisis practice
  • Establish and maintain standards of conduct with and for the learners
  • Adhere to departmental policies when dealing with aggressive or challenging behaviour
  • Ensure all learning activity aids the progression of individuals

Contribution to the team and organisation

  • Develop and share teaching and learning materials with the team.
  • Work within the organisation’s policies and procedures including Equal Opportunities
  • Support volunteers as required within the classes
  • Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are identified and reported in line with Crisis’ procedures

General

  • Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
  • Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job

Person Specification

Essential

  1. The applicant must hold, be working towards a practical teaching qualification (i.e. TQFE, Certificate in Adult and Community Learning, PGDE), or have demonstrable experience in delivering employabiltiy programmes
  2. Experience of designing and delivering employability training to clients with a wide range of employability needs
  3. Proven experience of engaging vulnerable, disengaged or hard to reach adults in relevant educational, employment and training programmes
  4. Proven organizational skills including an ability to prioritize, be self-motivated and have good time-management skills
  5. Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups using a variety of media
  6. Ability to work with minimal support with challenging behaviour and clients with complex needs
  7. A passion for innovative learning, creativity and encouraging individuals’ competency in employability skills
  8. A capacity both to work on your own, in teams and a willingness to reflect upon and develop own practice
  9. Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team to help achieve clients’ employability goals
  10. Knowledge of and ability to comply with safeguarding procedures
  11. Commitment to Crisis’ purpose and values including equality and social inclusion

Desirable

  1. Experience of working with clients whose first languages are not English
