Job Title:Drupal Developer

Department: beGrand.net project team

Responsible to: Service Manager

Location:Cambridge

Hours:37.5 hrs per wk – Monday to Friday

Fixed term contract to March 2011

Purpose of the job:To work with the Senior Developer to develop and implement the beGrand.net online service for grandparents

Overview:

The beGrand.net service will create a national online community combining high quality content with interactive services that will engage, inform and support grandparents. The service is fully funded through a government innovation contract to March 2011, with the expectation of sustainability beyond this date. We are looking for ahighly experienced developer to implement the service on the Drupal platform.

You will be working as part of a dedicated project team with support from Opportunity Links’ (OL) technical team who will provide infrastructure, testing and technical design authority services.

You will be responsible for developing the service on the Drupal platform including writing custom themes and modules, and integration with third party tools. Your role will be to interpret design requirements andprovide recommendations on the best way to implement the service on the Drupal platform to deliver a robust and scalable service.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Create well written and integrated Drupal modules to deliver custom functionality
  • Implement design requirements with custom themes
  • Develop Drupal page templates
  • Provide support to the test team to develop a robust test strategy
  • Produce technical documentation as required
  • Ensure that development work meets required timescales and milestones

Skills/Attributes:

Essential:

  • Experienced PHP developer
  • Demonstrable experience of working on Drupal modules and theme development
  • Familiarity with MySQL
  • An understanding of how to embed analytics to understand the behaviour of users and identify optimisation opportunities
  • Familiarity with a formal web design process and agile approaches to web development
  • Can work under pressure individually and with colleagues

Desirable:

  • Track record of contributing to the Drupal project (provide your profile link)
  • Experience with a Javascript framework such as JQuery
  • Understanding of government web design standards
  • Experience of Drupal scaling
