Job Purpose/Summary

  • As the supervisor of the Housekeeping Team the postholder is responsible for the provision of the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness, and that these are maintained within the hospice areas at all times. Furthermore, that these standards are achieved in a professional and efficient manner.
  • The postholder will also be responsible for the management of the domestic budget, and as such will report on any variances of 5% or more.

Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities)

  • To supervise within the allocated budget the domestic services within the Hospice, and to assure and maintain the highest of standards.
  • To have knowledge of, and practice all regulations of Health and Safety including CoSHH, manual handling and infection control and to ensure that the rest of the Housekeeping Team are familiar with, and practice such regulations.
  • To maintain the rotation, control and security of all stock related to the Domestic Department, and to liaise with suppliers for the best possible products on both price and suitability for purpose.
  • To maintain adequate staffing levels at all times by the use and management of rotas and sickness and absence records.
  • To assist in the recruitment and training of any domestic staff and to arrange induction for such staff in conjunction with other Heads of Departments.
  • To identify,review and conduct the training needs of the Housekeeping Team in accordance with job requirements, legislative guidelines and codes of good practice.
  • To represent the Housekeeping Team on any working groups within the Hospice including the Health and Safety Committee and the Infection Control Group.
  • To liaise and work with other Department Heads in the provision and need for domestic duties throughout the Hospice.
  • To check that all cleaning schedules are followed and that accurate records and paperwork are completed.
  • To conduct cleanliness audits and to participate in and co-operate with any inspections.
  • To carry out individual PPRDs for all housekeeping staff on an annual basis.
  • Manage the Housekeeping budget codes.

Management

  • As Supervisor of the Housekeeping Team the postholder will be required to lead by example and demonstrate attitudes and behaviour that contribute to the support and well-being of the Team, and the wider Hospice organisation as a whole.
  • To participate in an individual performance review on an annual basis with the Facilities Manager.

Communication

  • Communicating by redirecting all visitors/telephone calls to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Attend management team meetings and disseminate management information to staff.

Education and Training

  • To undertake any training that is required to perform the role of Housekeeping Supervisor.
  • To attend all mandatory training annually.
  • To facilitate and chair all Team Meetings and one to one discussions.
