General Description of Duties: The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment for residents and staff throughout the entire campus. This position is responsible for planning and directing all activities of Housekeeping, Floor Care, and Laundry to ensure that quality services are provided.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, schedules, trains, and develops employees’ performance providing regular and timely assessments, and performs corrective counseling/coaching when necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety, and facility regulations.
  • Executes and maintains daily quality control systems.
  • Demonstrate continuous ability to maintain and/or improve customer and resident satisfaction.
  • Maintains operating budget to include payroll, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure all work areas and equipment are clean, safe and orderly.
  • Ensure strict adherence to procedures involving chemicals, hazardous equipment or objects.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a working knowledge of the Environmental Services industry to include the use and care of floor equipment, carpet care techniques, an understanding of infection control practices, as well as proper chemical usage and commercial laundry operation.
  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum three years of Environmental Services Management experience, preferably in a Long-term care setting.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, service oriented environment.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated and demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Must have the ability to think analytically and make independent and accurate decisions in solving problems and improving services.
  • Must have the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors, vendors, and the general public.

Work Environment:

  • Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility.
  • Physical demands include intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting. stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other use of hands; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. and moving of furniture.
  • Operation of motorized equipment, such as floor stripping, buffing, and deep cleaning machines.
  • Frequent exposure to chemicals such as cleaning solutions; potential exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
