JOB TITLE:Director of Education & Workforce

LOCATION:LOROS Hospice, Groby Road, Leicester

HOURS OF WORK:37.5 hours per week

REPORTING TO:Chief Executive

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To provide leadership for the Education Department and Human Resources.
  • To provide executive oversight for the research team facilitating development and delivery of this area of LOROS’ services.
  • To contribute an educational perspective to the development of strategy, policy and procedure at LOROS.
  • To drive innovation and entrepreneurial thinking within the Education team and the wider hospice
  • Co-ordinate and contribute to the development and delivery of programmes across the hospice
  • To lead the promotion and management of the LOROS Professional Development Centre to ensure it is cost effective and delivers high quality services working collaboratively with the Director of Income Generation & Marketing and Marketing Communications team to maximise communication messages to create success.
  • To provide leadership and management of the education, professional development and mandatory training needs of LOROS staff and volunteers.
  • To provide strategic leadership for workforce planning for LOROS staff and volunteers
  • To lead strategic development of volunteering across LOROS
  • To develop and implement an education strategy which aligns external strategic priorities with education and training provision in order to meet the needs of the wider health and social care community, collaborating with relevant agencies where appropriate and ensuring that this model is financially sustainable.
  • To maintain the reputation of LOROS as a leading provider of high quality education and training.
  • To play an active role in the Senior Management Committee at LOROS.

KEY TASKS:

  • To develop, implement and monitor an education strategy to meet the emerging and future needs of LOROS staff and volunteers that is in line with contemporary teaching and learning approaches and policy direction.
  • To liaise closely with the Medical Leads for Education & the Lead for Research so as to ensure an integrated approach to education & research activities.
  • Lead on the review, development and implementation of Mandatory Training across LOROS.
  • To lead the strategic development of volunteering across the whole of LOROS with regard to over-arching policies, promotion, induction, training, capturing data and capabilities and some aspects of communication and recognition.
  • To lead and co-ordinate all education, training and practice development within LOROS.
  • To work across the organisation to promote and develop a learning and enquiring culture.
  • To promote and foster high standards of education and practice for all staff involved in the provision of LOROS services..
  • To identify and liaise with appropriate training providers and negotiate cost effective and quality assured packages of education.
  • Oversee the development of a marketing plan and business development strategy in liaison with the LOROS Education & Research Committee, the LOROS Education Business Manager and the Director of Income Generation and Marketing.For this plan to complement the strategic goals set out in LOROS’s Corporate Strategy and the Income Generation & Marketing Strategy.
  • To ensure the on-going maintenance and growth of income from education activity without sacrificing quality or reputation in order to support the delivery of education, training and practice development programmes.
  • To maintain a sustainable funding model for the LOROS Education Department in accordance with the Board of Trustees directive.
  • To provide leadership and direction in relation to all educational activity including prospectus development, course design & development, staff, budgets and targets.
  • To identify and take opportunities to showcase LOROS’ contribution in education, thereby raising the profile of the charity and its contribution to palliative and end of life care.
  • Be proactive in developing partnerships and representing LOROS with a range of stakeholders including local universities, health trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Hospice UK and others in order to build education programmes and income streams, in accordance with the LOROS Education and Research strategy.
  • Analyse education activity evaluation and actively participate in quality assurance, evaluation and audit.
  • Represent LOROS at meetings as appropriate, including regional and national networks, the influence planning, and raise the profile of the organisation.
  • Work with departmental managers and Human Resources Manager in strengthening the strategic and systematic approach to identifying learning and development needs of all staff and the development of learning opportunities to meet these needs, linking with the Performance & Development Review Process.
  • To provide strategic leadership on the development of fit for purpose workforce planning processes, working closely with the Human Resources Manager.

  • To provide inspirational strategic leadership, direction, motivation and support which promotes professional and personal satisfaction across the Education, Research and Human Resources Departments and enables the aims of the departments to be realised. The following posts report to this role:

  • To contribute to the LOROS Education & Research Committee.
  • To identify, plan for and ensure that the appropriate human and physical

resource needs are available and effectively and efficiently organised.

  • To optimise income generation through educational activity and successful grant

applications.

  • To ensure that systems, processes and expertise are in place to provide feedback

and evaluation on all educational activity in line with organisational and Quality Assurance processes & the requirements of regulatory bodies such as CQC, commissioners, awarding organisations and grant making trusts, producing reports as required.

  • To contribute an educational, workforce development and research perspective to the strategic and operational management of LOROS.
  • The post holder may be required to participate in the assessment of risk and

thereby contribute towards clinical and corporate governance agenda as appropriate.

  • To ensure own professional development.
  • To keep up to date with evidence based developments in education and professional practice and local and national strategy relevant to end of life care and to share these with the organisation as appropriate.
  • Undertake appropriate external engagement at local, regional and national level in order to contribute to the wider understanding of the relationship between education, workforce development and high quality end of life care.
  • Undertake required core and mandatory training.
