Main place of work:Suffolk Rape Crisis (SRC) office, Ipswich

Hours: 30 per week

Salary:£31,687(pro-rata)

Main Purpose of job:

The Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organisation as per the strategic direction established with the Board of Trustees. This includes being the spokesperson for and securing the financial sustainability of the organisation, building effective strategic partnerships and implementing Rape Crisis (England and Wales) National Standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

  1. Work with the Board of Trustees (BOT), staff and volunteers to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the organisation.
  2. Assess and inform the BOT of internal and external issues that impact SRC and act as professional adviser to the BOT on SRC’s activities.
  3. Foster effective teamwork between the BOT and staff and volunteers.
  4. Represent SRC at community and other events to enhance the profile and understanding of the work of SRC

Operational Planning & Management

  1. Develop an operational plan that incorporates goals and objectives and works towards the strategic direction of SRC.
  2. Ensure that SRC meets the expectations of its clients, staff, volunteers and funders.
  3. Oversees the efficient daily operation of SRC
  4. Draft and review policies and procedures for approval by the BOT.
  5. Ensure client, personnel and volunteer files are securely stored and confidentiality is maintained.
  6. Support the BOT by preparing agenda and supporting materials

Project Planning and Management

  1. Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organisations projects and services
  2. Ensure projects and services offered by SRC contribute to its mission and reflect agreed priorities
  3. Monitor day to day delivery of projects and services to maintain or improve quality.
  4. Oversee planning, implementation and evaluation of projects.

Human Resources, Planning and Management

  1. Determine staffing requirements for SRC
  2. Oversee the implementation of human resources policies, procedures and practices including development of job descriptions for all staff
  3. Establish positive healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
  4. Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further SRC’s mission, and ensure appropriate induction and development is provided.
  5. Effectively manage staff performance including annual performance reviews, coaching and mentoring to maximise performance
  6. Engage with own line management, supervision, training, personal development and well-being, using opportunities provided by SRC to do so

Financial Planning and Management

  1. Work with staff and the BOT to prepare a comprehensive budget and secure adequate funding for SRC to deliver its objectives.
  2. Research funding sources, oversee the development of funding plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organisation, including participating in fundraising activities as appropriate.
  3. Approve expenditure in accordance with the policies and procedures agreed by the BOT
  4. Ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.
  5. Administer the funds of SRC according to the budget and monitor monthly cash flow
  6. Provide the BOT with comprehensive regular reports on revenues and expenditure
  7. Ensure SRC complies with all relevant financial legislation including that which covers taxation.

Community Relations/Advocacy

  1. Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of SRC and to identify any changes in the community served by SRC.
  2. Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders and other organisations to help achieve the goals of SRC.

Risk Management

  1. Identify and evaluate the risks to SRC’s people, property, finance, goodwill and image and implement measures to control risks
  2. Ensure the BOT and SRC carries appropriate insurance coverage and that staff and the BOT understand the terms of this insurance.

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Experience and understanding of developing effective partnerships across voluntary and statutory sectors
  2. Experience in budget setting and financial project management and interpretation of financial information.
  3. Proven leadership and people management skills
  4. Ability to develop, implement, and manage a fundraising strategy from a range of charitable and statutory funders
  5. Experience of monitoring and evaluation, and reporting to funders
  6. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal to a range of audiences
  7. Ability to develop systems and procedures
  8. Excellent IT skills - word processing, spreadsheets
  9. Commitment to equality issues particularly as it relates to the those who access SRC’s services.

Desirable

●Experience of working in the women’s voluntary sector

●Understanding and knowledge of sexual violence and its impact

Special conditions to note:

The post holder may be required to travel across Suffolk for which the appropriate allowances will be paid. The hours of work are flexible to meet the requirements of the job and may require some evening and weekend work for which time off will be given. Other duties may be required from time to time in line with the purpose and level of responsibility of the post
