Job Title: Deputy Network Leader – Instruction/Leadership Coach.

Under the direction of the Network Leader, the Deputy Network Leader will support, develop, coach, and manage school administration teams to achieve academic success for students in those schools.

Salary Range: $78,436.80 - $130,500.00 (annually)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Support the creation of a professional learning community among principals within network

2. Promote continuous improvement in instructional leadership and professional development programs to support teaching at the highest levels

3. Support principals in the use of data to drive instruction

4. Rigorously evaluate all current principals against established goals and within the performance evaluation system

5. Build principals’ capacity to become autonomous school leaders

6. Foster learning among schools by promoting information-sharing across the network about resources and effective, innovative practices

7. Facilitate feedback loops to alert central office staff when there is a breakdown in the coordination of academic support

8. Support school level instructional teams in setting and achieving goals

9. Drive improved instructional practices at the school level through coaching of school leadership team members

10. Coordinate with the curriculum department to ensure that curriculum standards and resources are aligned

11. Oversee the data coaches to ensure that schools are effectively using data to drive instruction

12. Coordinate with the special student population offices to support schools in serving special education and ELL populations effectively

13. Support high schools in ensuring that all students have pathway to college and career

14. Collaborate with Office of Curriculum and other Network leaders to develop a coherent framework and approach for coaching instructional staff to improve their performance

15. Provides frequent, non-evaluative observation and coaching outside of the formal evaluation system

16. Provides model lessons when necessary and runs individual or small group professional development for teachers focused on instructional growth areas including (but not limited to): instructional planning, content delivery, maximizing instructional time, and building a positive classroom community

17. Conducts building-wide professional development for teachers

18. Supports the Principal in implementing progressive intervention, drafting corrective action plans, and holding teachers accountable to rapidly improve performance

19. Identify areas of need with principals to direct the work of content area instructional specialists in coordination with curriculum office

20. Provide hands-on management of Network team members, including providing regular feedback, coaching and direct support to ensure all team members are operating at a high level and coordinating effectively and cross-functionally

21. Ensure that all office staff provide responsive, courteous and helpful customer service to the schools, staff and other stakeholders they serve

22. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Network Leader

Education/credentials:

  • Bachelors’ degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Currently possesses Michigan Administrative Certification or willing to enroll in a place of work leading to the administrative certificate within the first 6 months in the role.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of senior level experience working directly with superintendents, executive cabinet leaders, school board members, non-profits or community representatives strongly preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience successfully managing large teams of adults towards achieving ambitious outcomes
  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience in a K-12 setting or in a related area with demonstrated student achievement gains; preferred experience in urban settings
  • At least 2 years of successful experience in a school leadership role with demonstrated student achievement gains
  • History of effectively coaching teachers and/or school leaders towards dramatically improving their performance with documented strong results
  • Experience managing Principals and/or central office staff focused on coaching, professional development and/or evaluation strongly preferred
