JOB TITLE: Custodian/Set-Up

SUMMARY: Set up special events throughout the campus to include athletic events, student activities, and concerts; perform light custodial duties.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:(A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

Completion of high school/GED; one year related custodial/housekeeping experience; must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

ESSENTIAL TASKS: Employee must be able to perform the following functions to the satisfaction of the employee’s supervisor.

Receive, unload, load, and move furniture, equipment and supplies

Set up chairs, tables, and other equipment or supplies needed for events; take down chairs, tables, and other equipment after events.

Transport chairs, tables, and other equipment or supplies needed at various locations on- and off-campus events.

Participate during the special event by providing incidental service related to the event.

Collect recyclable materials campus-wide

Prepare venues for athletic competitions.

Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with general supervision.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Perform light custodial duties related to the maintenance and cleaning of classrooms, offices, and other areas, as directed.

Adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required.

Assist with snow removal as directed.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to understand and follow written and oral directions;ability to complete assignments with general supervision; ability to perform all essential functions in a safe manner; ability to perform heavy lifting; ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum, mop, broom; knowledge of College Emergency Procedures; knowledge of cleaning chemicals, cleaning methods, tools, equipment; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets; ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to follow verbal or written instructions or work orders; and/or read routine sentences, instructions, regulations, or procedures; ability to communicate using routine sentences; ability to complete routine job forms and incident reports; and/or communicate routine information regarding daily activities.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form;ability to perform all essential functions using safe work methods and following safety regulations relating to job.

WORKING CONDITIONS : The following physical conditions and hazards may be encountered in this position:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; regularly works with exposure to cleaning solutions, disinfectants, chemicals, bacteria, and bodily fluids; may be assigned overtime, evenings, weekends or holidays; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; must be able to work flexible hours.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds; this position may also require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
