Primary Purpose:

The goal of the Counselor is to work with students, staff, parents, and community to plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program. Counselor will manage and coordinate the successful implementation and maintenance of the TTIPS program activities. Counselor will provide leadership to the instructional program, to oversee the operation, and to enforce and comply with the policies of the federal, state, and local education agency.

Position Description:

The Program and Graduation Counselor will work as assigned by the Board of Directors to ensure that the school district requirements are met. The contract will be 256 days.

Qualifications:

The Counselor will embrace the charter school mission and have experience in developing each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population groups.

• Master's degree in guidance and counseling

• Valid Texas counseling certificate.

• Proven capacity to effectively assemble and motivate a team of professionals to help student achieve their college and/or career goals.

• Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development

• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work with parents and community

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Counselor will manage the daily operation of the counseling office.

  • perform the developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district guidance program
  • assist teachers in teaching the guidance related curriculum
  • guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans, and/or Academic Achievement Plan (AAP)
  • counsel individual students and small groups with immediate needs
  • consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other key personnel to enhance student performance
  • maintain a communication system that is effective, collects information and distributes information in an appropriate professional manner
  • works with school and community leaders to bring resources to students
  • uses effective referral process to assist students and their families seeking additional social, financial, personal services
  • develops an assessment and evaluation system to insure a quality instructional program
  • participates in planning, administering, evaluation and interpretation of assessment instruments
  • compiles, maintains, and supervises required student records (physical and electronic reports, records, and other pertinent documents)
  • develop center schedules
  • initiates and coordinates counseling/instructional planning

implements program's College readiness offerings

  • develops all programming for each center
  • coordinates instruction and Field Trips with teachers
  • assist District Coordinator and Principal with the program operations
  • follow through and submit reports to the District Coordinator's office
  • assists in monitoring attendance
  • maintains students follow-up records
  • assists in operation of assigned centers
  • initiate and maintain recruitment efforts of students/families
  • prepare bi-weekly progress report to share at the District Coordinator's meeting
  • assists in operation of assigned centers
  • the employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee' supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission
