1.0 JOB PURPOSE

1.1To work in a diverse community and in a culturally sensitive manner to engage, enable and support parents with children aged 0-11

1.2To engage, enable and support parents and families of children with special needs and disabilities.

1.3To relate to families in the local community to support meeting their needs.

1.4To work in an integrated team to meet the needs of children and families.

2.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1To work under supervision of experienced/qualified colleagues.

To carry out one to one and group work in the home and community.

2.2To participate in home visits to support families as appropriate.

2.3To support the implementation of a range of initiatives, taking account of the cultural and individual needs of children and families, including:

  • Disability Benefits
  • Engagement in support groups
  • Liaison with other professionals as necessary
  • Support for accessing respite care.
  • Support for a range of assessments
  • Home safety etc

2.4To support the implementation of a range of social support initiatives taking account of the cultural and individual needs of children and families, including:-

  • Events
  • Fun days
  • Parents’ groups
  • Support groups

2.5To help empower parents and to support the development of their confidence and self-esteem.

2.6To contribute to packages of support to families who may be experiencing a wide range of difficulties, ensuring that the child’s needs and interest are the prime focus.

2.7To assist to develop innovative ways of engaging with families who would not otherwise participate.

2.8To work within multi-agency and/or multi-disciplinary teams to promote healthy development of children.

2.9To signpost families to appropriate services and facilitate their access.

2.10T o support a variety of group activities, which take place in the centre and the local community, as well as helping to develop new groups in response to families’ wishes and requirements.

2.11 To assist to develop training opportunities for parents and support them to obtain qualifications where appropriate

2.12To participate in regular supervision and appraisal with their line manager in line with the city’s performance management procedures

2.13To undertake in-house and other developmental training as required. To adhere to relevant policies and procedures as appropriate.

2.14To ensure that all service delivery is provided in a culturally sensitive manner to meet the diverse needs of children and families.

2.15To undertake other duties and responsibilities that are broadly in keeping with the remit of this post.
