Job Title:Communications Officer (Maternity Cover)

Department:Communications

Responsible To:Communications Manager

Purpose: To produce creative and innovative communications for Sheffield Theatres’ work, targeting appropriate audiences, and delivering activity to achieve sales targets.

Key Tasks:

  • Contribute to the communications strategy by developing, delivering and analysing creative marketing campaigns for Sheffield Theatres.
  • Deliver an appropriate mix of on and offline communications including print, advertising, direct mail, distribution, sales promotion/ticket schemes, e-marketing and digital content.
  • Monitor and manage allocated budgets to ensure that campaigns are delivered in line with set targets for sales and audiences through cost effective activity.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and promoters to ensure on-brand, high quality, accurate and timely delivery of materials.
  • Liaise with colleagues, creative teams and cast to produce accurate, engaging and on-brand printed and digital materials.
  • Adopt a CRM approach to all communications and undertake data extraction and analysis within the specialised ticketing software. Monitor and evaluate campaign results.
  • Work flexibly within the Communications department, collaborate with colleagues on communications activity and provide support as needed.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to customer needs and deliver excellent customer care through all communications.

General

  • As a term of your employment you may also be asked to undertake other such appropriate duties as and when required of you, as well as being asked to work flexible hours to suit the operation of the organisation.
  • Participate in all training and development initiatives as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION/ COMPETENCIES

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in an arts or cultural organisation.
  • Proven ability to devise and implement creative and commercial marketing campaigns to meet defined objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of developing effective relationships with a range of suppliers.
  • Practical experience of the elements of marketing e.g. advertising campaigns, print production, direct mail, digital marketing, distribution and promotions.
  • Organisationaland planning skills, including an ability to prioritise a sizeable workload and meet deadlines.
  • Experience of working within a defined budget.
  • Highly competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Commitment to providing customer service of the highest standard.
  • Ability to work to own initiative as well as working effectively as part of a team.
  • A keen interest in theatre and the performing arts.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the wider arts sector.
  • Experience of producing print and publications
  • Knowledge of ticketing systems and databases.
  • Understanding of digital communications channels.
  • Understanding of identity and brand positioning.
  • Experience monitoring, analysing and evaluating audience development campaigns.

MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Contract:This is a fixed term post to cover maternity leave. It is therefore not possible to define the exact term of the post.However it is expected that the post will be for a period of at least 6 months.

Pay:£21,274.14 per year

Probation:Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of 3 months’ probation.

Hours:Nominal weekly hours are 40 excluding meal breaks. In addition you will be required to work such hours and/or days, including weekends and public holidays, as are needed to fulfil the requirements of the position.

Holidays:Holiday entitlement is 5 weeks 4 days (pro-rata) per year. This holiday entitlement includes Public Holidays.

Pension: On successful completion of your probation or six months service whichever is the longest, you are eligible to join a defined benefits pension scheme (The People’s Pension) with an employer contribution of 3.5% of basic pay and a minimum matching employee contribution. During your probation you will be auto enrolled into The People’s Pension in accordance with statutory deadlines and contributions.
