JOB TITLE: Chief Executive

LOCATION: Bristol

The Rainbow Centre for Children, a unique charity in Bristol, seeks a CEO with the drive and vision to lead the organisation through change and beyond.
The Rainbow Centre for Childrenprovides therapeutic support to children and families affected by life threatening illness and bereavement. You will provide leadership and management to the organisation and its staff to ensure growth, sustainability and the delivery of a first class service to our clients.
Overall objective:
To provide leadership in shaping and influencing a positive culture in the organisation, to the benefit of clients, staff and volunteers, in pursuit of the organisation's vision, mission, business objectives and values

Management and Governance

  • To create a climate of support and accountability
  • To be attuned to relevant policies associated with service delivery
  • To work in partnership with the Trustees to develop the long-term strategy for the organisation
  • To promote good communication internally and with all external stakeholders, maintaining a positive public profile especially across the voluntary sector and funding bodies
  • To focus own and others energy on what really makes a difference and not be constrained by methods used in the past
  • To actively seek opportunities to improve delivery of service through new ways of working
  • To ensure that there is a sound understanding of the vision, mission, values and objectives of the Rainbow Centre amongst staff
  • To make policy and business proposals to the board, support the board in the development of proposals and be accountable for their implementation and achievement
  • To report regularly to the board on progress towards agreed priorities
  • To hold responsibility for the recruitment, management and development of staff so as to achieve the Rainbow Centre's objectives and reflect good employment practice
  • To assist the chair in ensuring that the board fulfils its governance role and provides appropriate support to the Chief Executive as required to ensure full statutory compliance for all aspects of the Rainbow Centre as a company and a charity, staying fully informed of new requirements and keeping the Board of Trustees informed

Financials

  • To be accountable for the financial and operational management of the Rainbow Centre
  • To ensure that financial and operational plans are developed, agreed and implemented
  • To ensure that fundraising meets targets to secure the future of the Rainbow Centre
  • To be responsible for the overall financial health of the organisation and ensure that appropriate control systems are maintained

Qualifications/experience required for the role:

Essential / Desirable
Leading an organisation through a period of change / Managing grants and developing new income streams.
Proven leadership and management capability including HR practices, financial controls, operational management and staff development / Good understanding of the current key issues for the voluntary sector
The writing of Strategic and Business Plans to support organisational growth
Knowledge of governance and the legal aspects of running a charity
Excellent communicator - written and oral, internal and external
An understanding of, and a successful track record of fundraising in the charity sector

Terms and conditions

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000

Holiday allocation:30 days plus bank holidays

Probation period: 3 months

Period of notice: 3 months

Hours: 35 per week
