FLSA STATUS:Non Exempt REPORTS TO:Summer Camp Director

Position Summary:

Camp Floating Assistantswill provide direct supervision over a large group of children in a seasonal day camp. Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director, the CFA will prepare for and assist in the implementation of camp activities. Preparation will include both setting up and tearing down of activities. In addition, CFA will check students in and out of camp, prepare snacks daily, and help with overall careof the camp facility. The CFA will assist to promote safe and healthy behavior in order to provide an active learning environment and provide a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The CFA will also assist the Summer Camp Director with summer special events and the promotion of Y Summer Camp.

Essential Functions:

  1. Directs and supervises children, the classroom, and the organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
  2. Serves as a role model to camp-goers and builds relationships with youth and families that will deepen their connection to the Y.
  3. Leads and participates in all camp activities and special events.
  4. Fills in for instructors as needed.
  5. Assists in running and implementing I-ready software curriculum.
  6. Maintains over all upkeep of camp facility by cleaning up after activities including putting equipment away, sweeping, mopping, etc.
  7. Prepares for and cleans up after snack daily.
  8. Communicates with parents to check students in and out of camp daily
  9. Acts as a positive role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
  10. Maintains high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  11. Works as a team with fellow camp staff.
  12. Controls access to Summer Camp facility.
  13. Maintains program space and equipment.
  14. Maintains required program records.
  15. Provides parents with accurate camp information.
  16. Resolves camper and parent concerns and inform Summer Camp Director of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  17. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings and staff training.
  18. Maintains a basic knowledge of all YMCA programs, departments, and membership information.
  19. Consistently demonstrates positive interaction and discipline with all children.
  20. Express clear expectations and hold children accountable to adhering to them.
  21. Help children develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
  22. Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.

Job Qualifications:

  1. Passion for working with youth and helping youth develop.
  2. College degree or currently pursuing college degree (emphasis on education preferred).
  3. At least 18 years of age.
  4. Previous experience working with children (in a developmental setting preferred).
  5. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to Lift 50 pounds using proper technique.
  2. Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
  3. Ability to swim 50 yards preferred.
  4. Currently have excellent health and be free of communicable diseases.

Trainings/Certifications Required:

  1. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications. (available through the Y)
  2. Redwoods safety trainings including Child Sexual Abuse Prevention completed prior to summer camp start date. (provided after being hired)
  3. Mandatory Reporter training. (available through the Y)
