SALARY: £16,191per annum

CONTRACT: Full-time permanent contract,subject to satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.You must live within an easy commuting distance.

The role

The Business Development Assistant role is part of the Trademark (TM) department and the work includes administration, customer service and checking products and ingredients on our database.

JOB DESCRIPTION Business Development Assistant

DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Trademark (TM)

  1. Deal with trademark applications and enquiries
  2. Check and process trademark applications and renewals in a timely fashion
  3. Ensure good communications with company contacts
  4. Manage database and paper records
  5. Ingredient checking

General

  1. Provide absence cover for Business Development staff;
  2. Assisting with opening incoming post, according to the prescribed procedure, and distributing to the relevant people;
  3. Assisting with outgoing post each day and maintaining relevant paperwork;
  4. General office duties, including dealing with own correspondence and filing own papers;
  5. Contributing to wider organisational development and communications;

Monitoring and Evaluation

  1. Monitor and evaluate business development successes and share findings internally;
  2. Provide bi-monthly progress reports to the Head of Business Development.

About the Business Development Department

The Business Development (BD) Department works alongside the Communications and Programmes department at The Vegan Society. BD is responsible for the majority of income generated (membership, donations, sales and trademark registration) and raising the public profile of vegan products through the Vegan Trademark. BD manages its own projects and works with CP.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The knowledge, skills, and/or ability required to carry out the role effectively (and which may be developed) are listed below.

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of whether ingredients in food, cosmetics, toiletries, clothing and household products are derived from other animals
  • Good understanding of business operations: production processes, administration
  • Understanding of the organisation’s values, standards and processes in order to make consistent and appropriate judgements

  • Appropriate experience in a directly related post
  • Understanding of working in/with NGOs or small charitable organisations
  • Knowledge of animal testing

Education / qualifications & training
  • A levels at A-C or equivalent

Skills & abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good telephone manner and customer-service skills
  • Computer literate with strong MS Office skills, including the ability to enter data accurately, analyse and manipulate data
  • Familiar with email and databases, e.g. ability to effectively search for required information
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with colleaguesand Trademark clients
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines
  • Work successfully to targets, delivering objectives and desired outcomes
