Job Title:Bridging to Change Children and Young People’s Sessional Support worker

Salary:£13.19 per hour

Hours: 6 hours per week

Location: Role is based across Greater Manchester with specific programme delivery in Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford. Full driving licence and use of a car is desirable.

Job Purpose:Develop and organise the delivery of peer support and positive activities for children and young people who may have witnessed/experienced domestic abuse. Service is open to children and young people whose families are already accessing support through Bridging to Change Domestic Abuse Services

Direct Reports:None

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement the delivery of weekly peer support sessions which will include positive activities for children and young people accessing the programme.
  1. Attend and contribute to TLC: Talk, Listen, Change Team Meetings as needed.
  1. Attend individual supervision and line management on a regular basis
  2. To provide day to day support, advice and back up to other workers and/or volunteers
  1. Contribute to group work planning sessions
  1. Complete appropriate paperwork with and on behalf of children and young people, including the use of session evaluation forms.
  1. Perform any other duties within the scope of this job profile or as reasonably required by the Children and Young People’s Service Lead.
  1. Deal with confidential information and ensure all records and files are kept up to date
  1. Commit to continuous professional development through engagement in the TLC: Talk, Listen, Changeannual training plan and other specific courses agreed with Service Lead.

  • Working hours may be subject to alteration at any time and adjustments to location may alter subject to demand
  • Working hours may include evenings, weekends and twilight hours
  • The post holder is expected to comply with all relevant TLC: Talk, Listen, Change policies, procedures and guidelines including those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Confidentiality and Safeguarding
  • Successful candidates will be DBS checked
  • Staff are subject to a 6 month probationary period
  • Funding for this post has been secured through BBC Children in Need, until end of October 2018

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

Experience:

  1. Experience of delivering high quality group work sessions
  2. Experience working with children and young people in group work settings
  3. Comprehensive safeguarding and child protection knowledge

Skills and understanding:

  1. A good team player
  2. A high level of written and oral communication
  3. Can work to direction and meet agreed objectives and deadlines but also enjoys working under own initiative.
  4. An understanding of the nature of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children

Desirable Requirements:

Experience:

  1. Experience of working within the Domestic Abuse Sector
  2. Experience working in a multi-agency setting
  3. Experience of working with families with complex needs
  4. Experience of developing and organising group work
  5. Experience delivering research informed interventions
  6. Knowledge of the range of statutory and voluntary agencies with which women and children may come into contact when experiencing domestic abuse
  7. An understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on children and parenting

Other:

  1. Full driving licence and use of a car.
