Job Title:Associate / Assistant Professors in Applied Psychology

Purpose of the Role:

The role holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the work of the Division of Organisational and Applied psychology’s programmes and scholarship in the area of applied psychology. He/she will primarily be responsible for the delivery of quality teaching, original research and administrative responsibilities as deemed necessary by the role.

He/she will also take responsibility for the teaching delivery, the maintenance and enhancement of high quality teaching including reviews and report writing when necessary, and other curriculum development needs of the division.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education /
  • PhD in Applied Psychology or related discipline
/
  • Membership of a professional body, where appropriate

Skills/Training /
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching of assigned modules and develop activities related to teachingdelivery
  • Proven ability to provide effective pastoral care to students
  • Ability to conduct original research and other scholarly work.

  • Track record of published research or conference presentations,
  • Good track record in the development and delivery of teaching
  • Skills in research methods teaching and training delivery

Experience /
  • Extensive teaching experience with an established reputation in the field of higher education
  • A proven record of excellence in teaching; course design and course delivery; commitment to delivery of quality services to students
  • Previous experience of the supervision and pastoral care of students at all levels

  • Teaching experience in Research Methodology
  • An understanding of University management systems and the wider higher education environment
  • Proven record of promoting and maintaining collaborative links with industry/business/ community

Decision Making

i)Taken independently by the role holder:

  • Plans the content and delivery of teaching
  • Develops new research collaborations
  • Applies for research funding – writing research proposals
  • Controls the spending of some research budgets
  • Promotes research programmes and publications

ii) Taken in collaboration with others:

  • Contributes to the Division’s, the School’s and UNMC’s strategic planning processes

iii) Referred to the appropriate line manager by the role holder:

  • Decisions that involve major changes in curriculum and module administration
  • Staff and student disciplinary matters
  • Requests for additional expenditure
